Always carry a reload, The vast majority of failures in a pistol are magazine related.

I carry a S&W 1911 and spare mag. My other carry is a Mdl 36 and spare speed loader.

I keep hoping someones says something to me and ends it with "this isnt the old west" so I can be sure to update them on the fact they are correct, it is the new west they used to carry 6 shot revolvers now we carry 12+ shot semi-automatics.

Good point. Making me think now, cuz I don't carry the extra mag on me either.
I have a hi-cap loaded and i carry 2 spares in my belt rig every time i go out.......always be prepared-boy scout motto

It is simple, if i am in a threat situation my course of action is to neutralise that threat to my personal safety as quickly as possible, however if i expend 30+ rounds of 230 grain .45 ACP hollowpoint and what i am shooting at is not dead or scared off i need to leave.

"If I shoot all the ammo I am carrying I either won't need anymore or more won't help"

But... But...

I *DO* carry a 6-shot revolver (S&W model 15)! I can't help myself - I'm fond of wheelguns. Reliable as sunrise in the morning, and if the first 6 don't do the job, there's 6 more in the speedloader in my pocket. (I figure that if I need more than that, I've probably walked into a situation where nothing short of Ma Deuce and a full can of ammo is gonna get me out.)

Have you ever tried to get the speedloader out of your pocket while crouching or kneeling behind cover?

Unless its in a back pocket or a trousers leg cargo pocket, its a whole different activity than while standing.

Same for magazines.

I recommend a magazine pouch or speedloader pouch.
