I decided a few years ago that I would not count on receiving Social Security.
Also, I'm not at all comfortable with the idea of me living off money seized from others under threat of gunpoint and prison.
Some years ago, when a renter, I realized my security deposit was at the landlord's mercy. Along the same lines, I met a fella who said his employment agreement ultimately meant that he could be screwed out of two weeks pay if the employer decided to play it that way. These made me decide to adopt the view that if "my" money is not in my hands, its open to disappearing. If it is fully or partially under someone else's control, there is a chance I might never see it again. Thus, I decided to assume I might never see it again.
