Ohio’s concealed-carry law requires anyone stopped by police to immediately notify the officer if they are armed. Failure to do so is a first-class misdemeanor that can result in a six-month jail term and a thousand-dollar fine, as well as losing the license to carry. It’s usually not considered a death penalty offense, unless one gets pulled over in Canton, Ohio, in a case highlighted today by Ohioans for Concealed Carry:

Apologize if this is posted somewhere else already.

"As soon as I saw your gun I shoulda taken two steps back, pulled my glock 40, and just put ten bullets in your ass and let you drop. and I wouldn't of lost any sleep."

Do cops not know they have cameras on them all the time?

That video was hard to watch. Had to force myself through it. They did everything wrong when it comes to a traffic stop and then the main officer in the video totally went off his rocker for no reason. I see a lot of errors on the officers part and it is sickening to know that officers like him make it into the police force.

Yeah, which makes this all the worse.
What does he do when he thinks he's NOT being observed?
And what would he do with a criminal carrying illegally? Really shoot them?

Violent, foul-mouthed, breaking numerous laws...
I hope he loses his job & has a huge fine.
As the captioning points out, this is a wonderful example of why notification laws are bad.

I think he was mostly mad at himself because he ignored safety & could have gotten killed if the driver hadn't been a good law-abiding citizen.

They went into this with one thing in mind to catch that person they knew and hopefully find something illegal in the car. They did so many things that were wrong with the traffic stop. If he wasn't law abiding it would have been a piece of cake to shoot these officers. They never secured each person and just dove straight into searching the vehicle....disgusting they need to be re-trained if they are not fired which they should be.

I had to force myself to watch the entire video. I disagree with HOJ that these officers need to be retrained. They both need to be s**t canned off the force. Officer 1 needs to be fired outright. Possibly do some serious time for threatening to kill the driver. Both officers are scum.

The driver needs to get the best personal injury attorney he can find and sue O1 for everything he owns or ever hopes to own. As well as sue the Canton PD into nonexistence!! Both officers need to be fired and blackballed from law enforcement anywhere on the planet FOREVER!!!

Howdy Folks!
That was the most outrageous violation of a citizen's rights I have seen yet.
There should be a whole ream of charges immediately brought against the officer who did most of the talking.
Menacing, threatening murder, abuse of police powers, willful disregard of due process, intimidation with a deadly weapon,
injury of suspect in custody, illegal search, and a bunch of others.

What I think would get the attention of those who do not belong behind a badge would be a new federal law, applicable
to rogue cops like this guy: Contempt of Constitution. It does not exist, but should! It absolutely should.

I personally believe that the highest crime in our country should not be murder, kidnapping or rape. It ought to be:
Breech of the Public Trust. Right on the heels of that one, a secondary crime of Contempt of Constitution.
Only when servants of the public are held to standards they hold against the public will they eliminate trolls with badges.

It should be noted: This guy is an affront and insult to every dedicated man and woman who serves nobly and professionally as police officers. He has no business in law enforcement and should be removed from the department and denied any access to firearms (due to threat of deadly force) along with gross violation of his oath of service as an officer. Not only is his behavior abhorrent to the community, it is unacceptable to police agencies across the country. Upshot: Fire that man, strip him of his badge and weapon, place him in custody and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

Blessings,

And all can see why I say I fear the system and LEOs FAR, FAR more than any predator encounter. You can't fight back and if there wasn't a camera on, who knows, the officer might have just decided to murder the detainee and get away with it, WITH the support of the department.

If something doesn't change we're basically doomed in 10 years going down this road.

[snip]

This officer, based on this video, may have a history of this type of behavior, maybe not to this degree but a history none the less. What really disturbed me was the complete lack of any intervention by his partner. Zero effort to rest control of the situation from his obviously out of control partner.

No, this officer is not the problem, he is a symptom of the problem. We keep trying to treat the symptoms and not the disease.

I just read on another forum this morning that O1 has a history of discipline problems going back to 2001, including being formally reprimanded in 2033. I *think* I read it over on the S&W forum, but there a number of these threads on this video on every gun board on the planet.

Which, if true, proves the point made in your last two sentences.

If the department had reason to know the guy was emotionally unstable and retained him having actual knowledge of that fact, that's grounds for punitive damages in Virginia; it would be a defense that they subjected him to psychological testing designed to determine whether he was a threat to the community without any such determination. The citizen clearly has causes of action for false arrest, false imprisonment, and battery. In Virginia (I'm not an attorney in Ohio), I'd add curse and abuse, conversion and trespass to chattels. Definitely punitives against the individual cop, possibly against the department, but not only as his employer, only as to their own tortious act in negligently putting a guy they knew was a danger out on the streets.

‘The cop heard round the world’ – Ohio incident puts law in crosshairs

Not only is a Canton, Ohio police officer under increasing fire this morning for his profanity-laden outburst at an armed citizen that now has gun rights activists from Toledo to Tacoma furious, the Buckeye State law that requires citizens to notify cops if they are armed is also being partly blamed for what happened during a video encounter that has streaked around the world over the past 24 hours.

Outraged.

I am trying to contain my anger. Woosahh. This video is hard to watch and listen to. Both officers need to be fired. O1 for his actions, O2 for his
lack of action.

If Joe Citizen did what this officer did, it would be about 10 years before he had his freedom again, and then no guns, ever. I think the same rule needs to be applied here.

This "officer" obviously is/always was a bully,,,and then panic set in. Bad combination. Big black eye for the whole LE community. Maybe a big enough black eye the union will not fight his dismissal...na, the union is the same thing, only to the employer rather than the individual citizen.

as this country becomes more & more of what it actually is ( the worlds third largest police state ) we will see much more of this in the near future with these "isolated" events becoming more aggressive & potentially lethal for the Subjects ( i mean Citizens of the USA ) with no real punishment for the US Militarized Police forces as their obscene amounts of ( above the law & most certainly unconstitutional ) authority will continue to increase.

In a free country the Government should fear the people, Not the People fearing the Government..do some soul searching everyone...Is this United states of AmeriKa really a free country ? or has it become a perversely corrupt socialist police state that the founding fathers would never had envisioned becoming a reality since they wrote the Declaration of Independence in such a way that the people had a guide to continuing real freedom ? Have we all allowed the tree of liberty to wilt away & die ?

This pos thug was suspended. The Canton chief said something like he over-reacted. It's on tape. Ka-ching. There is another thread on this on the forum. Criminal threatening takes away any hope this scumbag has of qualified immunity in Federal court under 42 USC 1983, also. But there is plenty meat for a suit in OH courts.

KCSO circulates Ohio police dash cam video as tempers stay hot

American gun owner tempers are still hot over a disturbing police dash-cam video released last week showing a profanity-laced encounter between a Canton, OH police officer and an armed citizen, and the King County Sheriff’s Office has forward the video to all of its employees…probably as an advisory on how not to handle this kind of situation.
