Coming to MN for a week

Im going to be in MN for a week and i was curious what i needed to know about ocing while im there. I have a cfp tgat is honored in MN but outside of that im not sure what else i need to know.

Currently I'm in glenwood and tomorrow ill be heading down to northfield on Friday for a week.

You shouldn't have any problem in Glenwood... Northfield however thinks that it can make it's own rules. They (illegally) post "No Guns" in city parks, and more than one OCer has had run ins with LEO.

Sad. Sounds like I'll just be better off CCing for the rest of the trip. Between my grandparents not liking guns, their town not liking OCing, and just not having enough time to look up all the proper laws I just don't want to risk it.

The law is clear that you can OC, and Government entities, (With the exception of schools, daycares, federal building,) specifically CANNOT limit the exercise of lawful carry.

But the city has other ideas... I doubt you'd be arrested, but I would expect to be harassed....

As we like to say here... How much justice can you afford?

Given that I'm in the military and am only up here for another week I would say I can't afford a whole lot of "justice."

So I have a question. What is the law regarding signs banning weapons in stores? I'm at the mall of America and didn't see any signs at my entrance but my parents entered at a different entrance and saw a sign for no guns that was off to the side and not on the door.

The signs are really just to make store owners feel better...

624.714 Subd. 17.Posting; trespass.
(a) A person carrying a firearm on or about his or her person or clothes under a permit or otherwise who remains at a private establishment knowing that the operator of the establishment or its agent has made a reasonable request that firearms not be brought into the establishment may be ordered to leave the premises

In order to get in trouble, you would have to carry into a store then (whether there is a sign or not) they would have to ask you to leave. Let's say you then refuse to leave... You would have to wait for the cops to come, and receive a $25 ticket (PETTY Misdemeanor), and probably a trespass notice.

Bottom line, until someone asks you to leave, there's no problem legally.

ALSO, a fun little tid-bit, the mall cannot legally ban carry, as they are a landlord. They do however, reserve the right issue trespass notices, and will have you escorted from the property, unable to return for a year... So weigh your options.

ALSO another fun tid-bit. 90% of the signs I see are not in compliance, which is VERY specific.

(i) the requester has prominently posted a conspicuous sign at every entrance to the establishment containing the following language: "(INDICATE IDENTITY OF OPERATOR) BANS GUNS IN THESE PREMISES."; or

...

(2) "Prominently" means readily visible and within four feet laterally of the entrance with the bottom of the sign at a height of four to six feet above the floor.

(3) "Conspicuous" means lettering in black arial typeface at least 1-1/2 inches in height against a bright contrasting background that is at least 187 square inches in area.

A $25 dollar ticket would be considered a petty misdemeanor, not a gross.

While I was at the MoA I started checking entrances and didn't see a single no guns sign so I guess my parents found one of the only ones. It also wasn't in compliance as it was on the side wall in one of those advertisement glass case. My parents just happened to glance at it but it was in no way obvious and if you entered on the far side (since there's multiple doors at each entrance) then it would have been out of the legal distance as well.

Whoever owns MOM, leases store units, they do not lease out the entire property.

Regardless, the sign was improperly posted and just looked like someone bought one of the advertising sections at the entrance and threw up a no guns sign to try and catch people that don't know better.
