    why do smileys rearrange themselves?

That block over there to the right as you're writing a post -
individual smileys are never in the same place twice.*
    Why?
Do they move up or down according to frequency of use?

(And how do I get the more interesting ones that aren't shown in the basic 24?)

    * Some math whiz can calculate how many different / unique permutations there are.
If you find out, post it.
I'm curious, but not curious enough right now to look up how to do it myself.

    There are 24 smileys. That means that they can be arranged in 24! = 24 * 23 * 22 * ... * 3 * 2 * 1 =~ 620,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (620 sextillion) ways.

If one time a second, someone hits the reply button and gets the list of smileys, the same set should come up every 20,000,000,000,000,000 (20 quadrillion) years.

If this once a second thing were happening since the beginning of the universe, the chance that the set that came up first ever came up again is 1 in 4,915,206, about 1 in 5 million.
