We have implemented a new Youth Admission Policy, effective immediately. We are meeting with the State Patrol and local law enforcement about increasing police presence around the Fair Park.

The new policy is as follows:

1. All youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age are required to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (age 21+) to be admitted to the Wisconsin State Fair after 5:00pm.

2. Anyone age 18 years or over may be asked to show a valid driver’s license or state identification card for proof of age in order to be admitted to the Wisconsin State Fair without a parent or guardian after 5:00pm.

3. Any young adult without a valid driver’s license or state identification card and not accompanied by a parent or guardian will not be admitted after 5:00pm.

4. Exceptions and challenges to this policy will be satisfied at the discretion of Fair Management.

They basically shot you a regurgitated copy of their bulletin.

The response I received followed by the initial email I sent

Hi ##########,

We do not allowed concealed weapons into the grounds and it has been posted that they are prohibited in the Fair Park for several years.

In response to the incidents of last evening we have implemented a new youth admission policy which is attached. Further we have met with area law enforcement and the State Patrol to increase their presence around the Fair Park.

I hope that those in charge will reconsider allowing concealed carry on the fairgrounds next summer. With violent incidents, like those that occurred on on near the fair yesterday, on the rise I can not in good conscience allow my family to attend when the ability to defend them has been taken away. As early reports demonstrate the police and security available was not enough to deter or prevent these events from taking place. It was just 2 years ago that the Mayor himself was a victim of an assault on the fairgrounds. Neither my family nor I will be the next victim like Barrett or any of those assaulted yesterday. Sadly my family will no longer be attending this yearly event until our rights to defend ourselves are restored.

just like some of the boiler plate letters we all get from the people we hire (elect) to represent us. they did not even touch on my questions pertaining on how they plan to guarantee me, my wife's and my children's safety ah well at least they responded

So if they get in before that, & stay, there's no parental supervision.
How does that help?
School is out, or they'll skip school, get there by 4, or 3, or 2...
however early they make the cutoff.

I used to really like going to the fair, usually mid-day, mid-week when there weren't as many people or as much noise. It's too dangerous to go now.

Might have to find out about the little county fairs; they're probably more interesting & true to the "fair" experience anyway.

yes i agree when i emailed i contacted the board. i did not bring up weapons but did write pertaining to me my wife and children's safety and got the typical boiler plate response. and i agree what is to
stop the hoodlums from getting in at 430 or earlier and then wait until nighttime? how are the leo on the premises going to stop every kid and ask where is yo momma?
this is not an effective way to handle the situation.

what they need to do is if underage NOT let them into the fair or on the fair grounds.

While I agree with your sentiment- I would like to add that the State Fair should not be an "inner city" festival--just how agricultural is inner city Milwaukee???. In addition, certain entertainment that attracts hoodlums should not be invited to perform at the fair. This segment of the population has proven time and again that they are unable to enjoy an evening of peaceful entertainment. I would prefer the fair to be somewhere north of Madison, so people who purposefully choose not to live in amongst the hoodlums do not have to venture into/through/ or even near Milwaukee to enjoy their fair.

I was going to mention that, too. I think MKEGal would enjoy our quaint little fair in Wilmot. The State Fair always seemed too commercialized to me - Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth counties all have great rural-style fairs that are much closer to a nostalgic Wisconsin experience.

Besides, it just feels wrong to look at cattle, swine and poultry in the middle of the big city...

I live in the City of Milwaukee, and I have to agree 100%.

We have seen enough to understand that the Wisconsin State fair is now a Milwaukee fair, and needs to be moved to a safer location. I would also agree that a more central location would help more of the people that the fair is supposed to be about. At this time I know more than a handful of people that would never even think about going to the current location. It is a true shame. Crime at "our" fair is not going to go down, until it is moved.
