Virginia Tech scare refocuses 2nd Amendment debate

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - In July, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issued a legal opinion that a University of Virginia policy banning concealed firearms can't be enforced.

Weeks later, in early August, three teenage girls reported seeing a possible gunman at Virginia Tech, setting off a swift lockdown on the Blacksburg campus, an intensive police search and a cable-news feeding frenzy that flashed back the still-fresh horror of a 2007 campus massacre.

It raised a tough new question for Cuccinelli: Would you challenge a gun ban policy at, of all places, Virginia Tech?

What the hell is wrong with people? Do they really think a crazed killer is going to worry about their stupid gun ban when he's already decided to commit murder, and probably isn't planning on living long enough to get caught?

WTOP

PPT (Propaganda Protection Team) wiped out the comment stream because of content indicating just how people feel about loosing their gun rights

The site says there are 11 comments, but only 4 are showing. And of those, two are about what happened to the nine that got wiped out. Apparently WTOP's magical memory devices do not run autonomously.

Seems that the answer really is, Yes, Cuccinelli should challenge a gun ban policy at, of all places, Virginia Tech.

stay safe.

Too bad WTOP does not want us to see that.

Language matters

Bob Lewis writes:
Now a fulltime gun-control advocate, Haas on Thursday asked the question that the day's false alarm at Virginia Tech begged so soon after Cuccinelli's pro-gun legal guidance on UVa's policy: Does the Republican attorney general with his eyes on an eventual gubernatorial run believe Virginia Tech has the right to ban guns from its campus?

The error is, Tech doesn't have any rights. Lewis should have written:
Now a fulltime gun-control advocate, Haas on Thursday asked the question that the day's false alarm at Virginia Tech begged so soon after Cuccinelli's pro-gun legal guidance on UVa's policy: Does the Republican attorney general with his eyes on an eventual gubernatorial run believe Virginia Tech has the authority to ban guns from its campus?

The correct answer is no, but of course zealots like Haas don't want to acknowledge that.

Regarding self-induced panics, that's exclusively the fault of hoplophobes. The solution of course is therapy, not more regulation, but again, Haas won't acknowledge that, either.

Haas is still in denial - repeating the errors, hoping for a different outcome.
