Visiting Florida

I will be visiting Florida in December and I just want to make sure I understand the rules before I show up. I know that open carry is not legal and I need a permit. I have a permit from Virginia so I do not believe that is an obstacle.

My questions are about where is it not legal to carry.

Is there a gun free zone around schools if you you have a permit?

Can I conceal carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol? In Virginia where I live it is legal to open carry and drink, and legal to conceal carry as long as you do not drink.

Are there any other areas of concern I may need to look out for?

I am sure the weather will be cool enough to make the cover garment practical.

Thanks

You can essentially go anywhere if the gun is in the glovebox of a car, even a school. You can't carry onto any school property. On a sidewalk next to a school is fine. You can carry into a restaurant that serves alcohol but not that portion which is primarily devoted to dispensing alcoholic beverages (don't sit at the bar). You can drink and carry. No college or professional athletic event, no jail, courthouse, police station.

Wouldn't this mean outside is okay?

No, by facility they mean property. And elsewhere, not in 790, it talks about any school property. It's there that it also makes an exception to vehicle long gun and glovebox carry.
