As for an OC experience, my hubby & I went to West Plains the other day. Went into Wendy's & was sitting down to eat when we realized that he hadn't taken the gun off of his hip! No one said anything but a table with some women & kids at it had a table full of EYES! LOL

Is OC not allowed there, otherwise there shouldn't have been any issue OC'ing. Any signs at that Wendy's?

the reason i like open carry is because it doesn't cost me anything to do it - money wise anyway.
With concealed carry, you have to take the required classes ~ with those 'teachers' they deem worthy to get your money ~ then you have to pay them to get the license. And then you have to renew that sucker every few years.

No, there weren't any signs up at Wendy's. It's just the fact that he hadn't taken the holster & gun off before we left the house. He doesn't usually carry in town yet. We are still getting used to living here in Missouri. We moved from south MS in March. We don't know which cities or locations have no open carry & which do. So we're reluctant to do anything until we learn more.
Thanks for the welcome. I didn't know there was a forum for Missouri open carry till I was on another site & it linked to it.

Welcome to Missouri and the forum. I've been to West Plains a couple times to take defensive handgun training from a training facility there. It's a neat little town.

We are between Mountain View & Willow Springs up in the woods.
This is all totally new to us. We're both southern born & bred! LOL
We were in a camper in the Roadrunner RV park just north of West Plains when all the snow & ice hit here in late January/early February. That was an experience!

I had two OC experiences today, one was at the Open Carry 9/11 Event with 45 other OC'ers. Great time was had by all. After getting home from the event I took a 5 mile walk and was greeted with thumbs up from a guy turning in front of me. "OC, THE WAY IT OUTTA BE".

I OC'd at Gentry park and am I glad I did. There were a bunch of suspicious looking guys there with guns! I guess mine was a deterrent. LMAO. Was good to see you guys. Good food and good friends, what more can ya ask for? Till next time.

I carried all over Lees Summit and KC last Sat., havent been on to post. I had a nice long chat with a Lees Summit Leo that has served for 25 years. He happened to be stickering a disable vehicle next door to my house. I just arrived back home from some errands and had my weapon on my side and went over to chat. I was impressed with his knowledge and attitude about CCW and Open Carrying. He knows it Legal and is all for it, knows about asking for ID with no RS, and understood where I was coming from when we were talking. I shared a few past experiences I and a few others have had here in Lees Summit, he was appologetic and just shook his head. I thanked him for his time and told him I hoped we could chat again sometime. Then I went across town to a friend, stopped by Caseys to get something to drink....walk in and the girl at the counter stares at me and asks if I have a permit or license to carry that THING in here. I asked what THING, she points at my firearm. I then asked her If I need a permit or license to carry my firearm in here, she says yes....I tell her she is mistaken.....get my drink....as I am paying her I ask her if she has a computer, she says yes, I then give her one of the cards and tell her to go to the site and get educated on Missouri gun laws, and the right to Open Carry a firearm....it was a good day..

3. Visably armed citizen as a potential victim? Sorry sir, the criminals say it 100% the opposite, seems they know there are huge rule differences for you and I.

As a LEO you have the rules of engagement you must follow in order not to watch them walk, we simply must be in fear for our lives. Your goal is to CATCH the threat, ours is simply eliminating it.
+1 on each, though a minor quibble...
We're not supposed to say that our goal is to "eliminate" the threat, only "stop" it.

Now, if stopping some BG in the act of attacking me* results in him being unable ever again to breathe, etc., I'll be upset that I harmed someone, but it couldn't have happened to a more deserving person & it's entirely his fault. He could have left me alone in the first place, he could have gone away when I drew & pointed the pistol at him. But no, he just had to press the issue...

Eliminate threat by stopping person posing the threat. OC eliminates the threat by stopping them before they begin.

First MWAG... kinda.

My first MWAG since I started open carrying just a few months ago. It was not, however, a police officer that came up to me.

I was in Wal-Mart with my wife, just running errands and picking up ammo and some biodegradable clay pigeons. I was OC as usual. I tried to get my wife to OC with me on the bases that if something should happen, it is better have someone there who can back you up, but she declined on the basis that her paddle holster has not shown up yet and she hates to wear a belt in order to carry.

Anyways, I was looking at video games when I noted out of the corner of my eye that a manager was coming towards me. Now, since I have yet to be hassled in Wal-Mart, I was just assuming that he was heading this way for something else. Instead, he stopped to the side of us and this is how the conversation went.

Manager: "Can I see your gun..."
I think he wants to see my gun and am just about to tell this guy off when he completes his sentence.
Manager: "err... permit?"
Me: "I don't need one."
Manager looks confused: "You don't need a...?
Me: "You don't need a permit to open carry."
Manager turns to walk away, but since he is still looking confused I keep going: "This city allows open carry and Wal-Mart goes by local ordnance in regards to carrying firearms. Now, you can ask me to leave.."
The manager breaks in: "Oh no, no no no."
Me: "... and I will have to accede to your request, but I will no longer do business here."
Manager: "No, you are fine."
Me: "Was there an issue then...?"
Manager: "There were a few people concerned..."
Me: "Well, it is not my duty to make others at ease. It is our legal right to open carry."
At this the manager just walks away, still looking perplexed as well as a bit beaten back.

Now, the manager wasn't even trying to make me leave. I have the distinct impression that the contact would have ended once he had seen my CCL if I had had one.

This is what gets me, how little people understand and know their legal, constitutional rights. There really needs to be a class on it at least at the high school level, but I would really prefer to see a class start in elementary school.

Yesterday I carried to Wal-Mart, nothing happened, that I noticed. Went to Zen Blenders(A very good Vegan restaurant in Warrensburg), no problems there. Went for a walk to Parker's Grocery store, the only problem was my Mother-in-law who doesn't like guns in general. Ill get to her soon ENOUGH:). Good day all in all.

My OC places

I ODed in Quiznos on Independence Rd, Wal-Mart on Independence Rd and Steak and Shake on south Glenstone in Springfield. In Quiznos a UPS guy asked what I did that required me to carry a gun, I told him I just carry for self defense, and in Steak and Shake there was a guy on his lunch break asked if I was a security guard. I told him the same I told the UPS guy in Quiznos.

OUCH!! :)

Walmart didn't ask you to leave? I've tried on S Campbell and Independence and they both have asked OCers to leave. A LEO friend has told many times of how they've been called to WM to escort an OCer out. Interesting. They haven't issued any citations or had any problems with OCers.

Just so you know Walmart follows state and local laws, them telling you to leave is against store policy. You need to contact walmart to have those employees corrected on walmarts policy. If an employee who is not management confronts you tell them to get management immediately.

'A manager' asked me to leave. Wasn't real eager to create more of a scene and followed their request.

Did contact WM, the response is as you stated; however, they stated store leadership has discretion depending on the circumstances. Subsequently, they can make a decision based upon the circumstances, as long as it is not contrary to fed/state/local laws.

It's been a while since I have been in there, OCing.

Agreed, then ask for the highest management on duty. If the store manager is there, nothing should happen and if it does send corporate an email with all of the details, and names. It is store policy to go by the city's laws.
