Spate Of Handguns Busted At Airport Screenings Shows Folly Of Apathy

A recent spate of handguns caught at airports may just show the folly of taking an apathetic position on your gun rights. Over the years I have met many people who say "I'm carrying anyway", and do just that. Some rely on the false hopes of obscure or untested legal theories to protect them, and others are the types that challenge authority on any regulations whether that be drivers licensing, contractors licensing, or gun permit. The message I have for anyone taking this route is that prevention is the far better cure than is defiance. By prevention, I mean getting involved in your government. These gun laws came about because too few people oppose them during the process. The legislative process is like a river, and those that chart its' course fare far, far better than those who get run over by its' new one. The one thing over regulation does create is foxhole converts or in the inverse, complete dropouts. The one's who try and survive outside the system have to choose sooner or later.

Where did you copy this from?

Also, I haven't had any problems with my pistol when flying SouthWest Airlines.

Then again, I did declare it.
Gun control isn't about guns -- it is about control.

It's not copied from anywhere, but just a short point I was making after reading about 3 or 4 guns turning up in carry-on luggage at airports around the country. One person said they forgot; another said they were unaware of the law. what I see is people who have become too comfortable with ignoring the law, and that could easily turn into a revelation at a crucial time.

TSA officials say the agency discovers about two firearms a day in the luggage of travelers at airports across the nation.

The passenger, who was not identified, told officers he forgot he had the gun in his bag.

I don't think there's anyone out there who will be surprised if they are subjected to the state's punishment if they get caught trying to bring a gun past a secure checkpoint at an airport. I don't know anyone who would be dumb enough to willfully ignore the posted warnings about bringing guns through the checkpoint.

However, even if they did so, it wouldn't be wrong, at least not in a moral sense.
