The Rock Hill Board of Aldermen is considering a measure that would prohibit the open display of firearms in the city.
The practice is often referred to as "open carry." Carrying an exposed firearm is not outlawed by state statutes, but cities have the option to restrict or ban the practice be enacting local laws.
City Attorney Paul Martin said the measure, introduced at this week's meeting, would amend the city’s current gun law, which provides an exception for individuals who possess a conceal carry permit.
Concealed weapons would still be allowed in the city for those possessing a conceal-carry permit as per state law, but the open display of firearms would be prohibited.
