As you may not be aware, I have disabled children who are in residential care, I visit with them and take them out on the town on Saturday's, no one else ever visits with them. I do not give up, ever and they absolutely come first in my life. Only extraordinary circumstances alter that visit IE older sister got married, my grandfather passed, and delivery of supplies to the victims of Joplin are the three things that have caused me to postpone those visits.

Wheeling nor firearms issues take precedence over that responsibility to me.

I do not tell others how to live and you should head on down on Saturday morning and have fun, if you want to wheel with me, I will be there in the 5 to 6 pm range and will wheel into the evening with you if it suits you.

I was simply stating where I was going to be so that anyone with similar interest could join in. My buddy Dave is going down Friday night or Saturday morning, he remains unsure at this point.

If the times work out for you, feel free, if you arrange other times to meet others, that's fine too. I only offered it up as an open invite for everyone. I wanted to be sure that any newbies to wheeling who may be apprehensive about that first wheelin trip understood that they had an open invite to wheel with some folks with decades of experience who would not push them outside the scope of their abilities, that was the only point.

I hope you guys go on Saturday and if you do so and are up for some evening wheeling as well, we can do that on Saturday evening. I certainly will not be offended if you leave before I get there, no big deal at all, one simply has to love the freedom of the outdoors and grant that freedom to all. Like I said, the big rule is HAVE FUN!

LTMD, I completely understand your family responsibilities, and was in no way trying to impede on them. I can either come early or mid afternoon Saturday, but plan on staying into the evening hours.

The only reason I cannot make Sunday is because my father, grandmother, and sister are driving to Columbia to visit us Sunday afternoon. My sister has Down's Syndrome and is in a group home in St Louis. I only get to see the three of them every few months due to our schedules.

I just didn't want to get there, and not know if others were there already on the trails, or hadn't shown yet. I just had this image of people showing up at varying times, not finding others, then hitting the trails more or less alone, only to have other people complete a trail and return to where they had just been shortly before. Kind of like everyone there, but never know anyone is there because they never see them. Of course, having never been to Potawatami, I have no idea if the trails start and end at the same place, or how they are set up.

Event just went OC :)

I got to the webspace and snagged the rules, no firearms restrictions :)

Now, as for meeting up in the park, well that should not be too hard because if I understand others correctly, this remains within cell usage. I am not planning on bothering with a cb install for it, but I do run a 2 meter rig so if your a ham we can do that lol.

We will come directly to the park, the hotel we are staying at is in Jeff, not a lot of choices in Fulton and one of them had no rooms and the other guy was a jerk on the phone not to mention quoting rates 40 bucks more than I could get the room online at the same hotel aka dishonest business practices ie I do not want to support him.

Even better news, park closing at 10 does not mean off the trails by 10 :) read these rules and see that night wheeling is certainly an option, just stay away from the camp grounds!

rules:

There are not many rules, we are pretty easy going, but there are a few:

- Alcohol is allowed, BUT, if you start acting careless or stupid, you will receive a warning. If it continues, you will be escorted from the park.

- On main roads by camping areas, please try to keep speeds to a minimum.

- After 11PM, you are allowed to ride, but try to stay away from camping areas. Let's be courteous to others.

-There will be no trash when you come here. So please don't leave trash when you leave. There are trash barrels at every camp site and a dumpster at the gate.

- Please make sure you have a light on your vehicle when it gets dark, this is for your SAFETY.

If you obey these rules, there will be no problems. If you don't obey these rules, you will be asked to leave the Park.

We will have staff monitoring the Park.

I know about your chilren, Rich ( and have much respect for what you do :D) and plan on being there when you get there. I can stay awhile, and may just throw the air mattress in the back of the Jeep, not sure. I'm in Jeff so we may just be leaving together heading this way. What hotel ya stayin' at in JC ?

The Motel 6 on outer 54. I used to service it a hundred years ago and it was actually really nice. They replaced carpets yearly etc. Apparently a lot of the reps stay there when in session as well because the Capitol plaza is too high lol.

One hotel in Fulton was completely booked, the other was a moron about it, and the other one had pretty poor online reviews so I just started looking at Jeff instead.

Here is a slight road block, the rain. My buddy dave has already backed out saying that potawami gets REAL bad with rain aka axle deep mud before you even get to the trails. He is really wanting to either cancel the trip or move it to hanibal rocks.

I am not a mudder myself, I like the trails and creek runs. I am not anti mud, but 31" at2's are not going to fair real well in 12 to 14 inches of mud at all. I never mind wiching someone out but I do not want to spend the whole day doing it either.

Can you confirm conditions knowing we are expecting three days of rain? Will it be a real mess? He frankly does not want to take the chance at all and he is not a wimp about such things at any level, he just does not want to be off camber sliding into trees and such and if the trails are muddy that is a very real reality. When we hit potosi area, it is no issue if it rains because the trails are dirt/gravel covered so to speak. He is real concerned because he felt it was kind of soft two weeks ago when he was there and feels the rain has ruined the trip.

Let me know your thoughts and if you concure we will reschedule the fulton run later in the year as we both really want to explore that park, I would say a fall colors kind of run in mid october.

Stupid rain! If the mud is potentially as bad as you are saying, I am afraid I may have to back out also. If you are concerned about AT2s, my Grabber UHPs do not stand a chance. I tried to talk the misses into letting me buy a set of 5 Goodyear DuraTracs before this weekend, but I was met with silence, and "the look".

It's too bad we don't have a wheeling member close enough to scope the trails beforehand...

Well it rained most of the day today and is suppose to through sunday . Of course that may change, but that is what the weather says . :cuss:

Well then it looks like it is going to have to be October instead. Sorry about getting you hyped up and then bailing out but there is no real sense in it if the whole thing is going to be mush.

Was going to shift to Hanibal rocks but guess what... its CLOSED for trail riding right now :(

Looks like letz go nutz it will have to be this weekend! No firearms :(

Rain and mud kinda trashed this trip, trails were impassable for anyone on less than 35" tires and even then it was questionable. We had a decent time but left the park VERY fast, I tugged Dave out a couple of times and that was the end, it was just going to be a constant day of recovery and no one wants to do that.

So, is a mid October run still in the works when the trails will hopefully be less muddy?

Yes, most certainly. Life would be very odd without some sort of fall colors run. Letz Go Nutz is off the books 100%, they are doing no grooming and are going to find themselves with nothing but scooters, atv's and mud trucks if they do not put a boat load of effort into making it something decent. It was a waste of time and money, we will not be back unless a very reliable source indicates they have done massive work.

The thing is, they are kind of hurting for riders as it is and when they basically eliminate the street driven rigs, that is a huge portion of the customer base. If we had taken a newbie with us, they likely would never want to go wheelin again, the main trail was so bad we likely did not cover much over 1/2 mile before we had decided to end it. We had our picnic lunch and left so not all was lost, the wheelin was just disappointing.

Fulton is absolutely on the top of the list for the next run, should be a good time if we can miss the fall rains.

I am also working on an interesting project for total newbies, a stocker run for fall colors with a BUNCH of low water crossings and some very tame stuff. The key is getting outside, traveling together, having a picnic and enjoying the woods. 1 being easy aka a newly graded gravel road and 10 being about the maximum you can do with a street rig, I would say it would be a 2 or 3 before I am don. If you are a rock crawler, you will be bored, if you like nature and want to travel the backroads and have some minor challenges for a newbie it will be a blast.

At this time, the route has perhaps 20 to 40 low water crossings.
