Does anyone know?

I know this isn't completely an open carry question, but my friend asked my a question and I could NLT find an answer for him.
He open carries a handgun quite a bit, but I guy he runs around with was a convicted of a felony drug charge a couple years back.

I know the krs states that a felon is not to own or be in possession of a firearm, but if my friend is riding along with his cousin, while carrying his firearm, is this considered illegal because the gun is in the car if the "felon"?

I didn't think so, seeing how it's nit in the other person possession, i just didn't want to tell my friend wrong
