unless Governor Brown vetoes AB 144, citizens will be forced to carry long guns in urban areas instead of holstered handguns, the norm across the United States. Under Portantino’s bill, citizens would be required to open carry shotguns or rifles in public places like Ralph’s grocery stores, Starbucks, sidewalks, streets, and other public places from San Francisco to San Diego. “I don’t know what Portantino is thinking,” says John Pierce, Co-founder of OpenCarry.org.

“if Portantino wants guns out of sight, his bill is going to backfire,” adds Pierce. “Places like Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade will look like a moving gun show when parents shoulder AR-15s and double-barreled shotguns while taking their kids out for ice cream.”

. . .

All eyes now are on Governor Brown, a gun owner who is proud of his nickname "Governor Moonbeam." If Brown does not veto AB 144, he may soon earn the nickname "Governor Long Gun."

Everybody needs to keep hitting the Governor's office as hard as they can. CA needs a veto here. Everybody can make a donation to OCDO to help fund the fight as well. Click here to donate.

Random question: If AB144 passes will the CA forum be exempted from the prohibition on the discussion of long gun carry?

This notion is not recieving a warm welcome at Calguns. It seems that many members there (moderators included) believe that open carry is an 'off topic' subject and the activity, whether pistols or long guns are openly carried is certain to escalate the political blowback from the California legislature, when it is they, themselves that have instigated the method of protest. Perhaps this is how the anti-gunners anticipated emplementing a wholesale ban on all exposed firearms in public.

Truly a said state of affairs when one of the most predominant "2A" groups in the state is too ashamed of their gun rights to even carry them in a 100% lawful manner. #LOSING

As SBOC demonstrated over a year ago, long gun open carry in urban environments DOES NOT have to be met with tazers and police or scared running sheeple. People walked right by that peaceful group of open carry advocates, despite some with akimbo shoulder holsters and long guns (in addition to all the handguns in belt holsters). Its time the idiots on the CGN forums stopped sipping the anti-gun kool aide and understood what 2A rights are really about. There was NOT ONE e-check at that entire event btw...
