"The Silverton is a firearms-friendly hotel"? I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but since when? Is this something new? If so I welcome it but the last time I was there I saw signs, lots of signs and even the people in Bass Pro warned me about carrying on Silverton property. Not too long ago there was a post on here about getting kicked out of a parking lot event I believe it was. Does this mean we can open carry to this meeting?

    Please advise.

    I learned:
The NRA-ILA entered into a contract wherein the Silverton removed their prohibition on carrying firearms. To the best of my knowledge, "open carry" was not specifically addressed.

Maybe the best advice, if you wish to open carry, is to do so only from the parking lot to the event room (and avoid the casino and other areas.)

We must remember that although the Silverton removed their "prohibition," it is still private property.

Thank you very much for the info. This could be good news. Could be that business is so bad that they are willing to change their policy, at least for this event.

I agree that under the law they have the right to set standards for their property. I just happen to not want to support any business that does not fully support my right to self defense. It would greatly disturb me if a pro-gun organization that I have been a life member of for over 30 years was not concerned about this too. I will be there, armed, and let the chips fall where they may. I hope many others will do the same.

Varminter I also thank you for all your efforts for the cause.

I just sent an email to the Silverton asking them directly about what their policy is. I thought why not remove all doubt and go straight to the source. I will share any response I get of course.

At the monthly Open Carry luncheon today (sorry if you missed it), Don Turner, President, of the newly formed NV Firearms Coalition, assured those of us in attendance that NRA/ILA was working on the issue of firearms carry at the event. He said that if the Silverton will not allow us to carry on its property, the event would be moved. It was a pleasure meeting the representatives of the Coalition, and I urge all to join the group and then do your part to make sure The Coalition genuinely supports the goals of its membership. An organization is only as good as the membership makes it.

There was some very good ideas kicked around today. I also urge you to get behind the proposed steering committee here in Clark County. Even those in other areas of the state need to realize that what happens here with regard to fighting such things as the Blue Card Registration and forcing local authorities to follow state law is important to the whole firearms community throughout Nevada.

    From the NFC:
The Silverton Casino agreed to open carry for the Nov 19 event.
The NFC [http://www.nvfac.org/] supports the open carry issue.

Unfortunately, the Silverton has apparently backed out of the contract and agreement to allow OC.

As I understand it, a search is being conducted for a better place to hold the event.

I expect an NFC statement soon.

The event will be held at Stoney's Rockin' Country on Saturday, November 19th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Stoney's Rockin' Country is located at 9151 Las Vegas Blvd South.

It was said the owner of Stoney's was extremely easy to work with - "firearm friendly" means ALL types of carriers, be it open or concealed.

Thanks to the NRA for changing the location from the 'NOT-open-carry-friendly' Silverton Casino to Stoney's Rockin' Country.

    NFC email:
NRA-ILA GUN OWNER GRASSROOTS EVENT IS CHANGING LOCATION!
NO LONGER AT SILVERTON CASINO IN LAS VEGAS
    MOVED TO
STONEY’S ROCKIN’ COUNTRY at 9151 Las Vegas Blvd S, #300, Las Vegas NV 89123
    SEE DETAILS BELOW
Based on its portrayal as a firearms owners friendly venue, the Silverton Casino was contracted to host a grassroots guns rights workshop. After the contract was signed, Silverton Casino notified NRA-ILA that firearms owners were welcome but they could not possess firearms on Casino property.

Being a grass roots event for all legal gun owners, it was decided to move the venue to a location more supportive of gun owners and gun rights. The grass roots event is now scheduled at Stoney’s Rockin’ Country (9195 Las Vegas Blvd S #300, Las Vegas, NV 89123 beginning at 1 pm on November 19, 2011.

According to the Nevada Firearms Coalition President Don Turner “Hundreds of thousands of Nevada citizens, including 47% of Clark County residents, are lawful gun owners; the Nevada Firearms Coalition was formed to give us a voice. The Silverton Casino claimed they were gun owner friendly, they are not, so we are taking our event and our business elsewhere.”

An article on this subject was distributed by Nevada News & Views, see below:
Silverton Casino Turns Its Back on Gun Owners | Nevada News and Views [http://nevadanewsandviews.com/]

The Nevada Firearms Coalition is a recently formed membership organization that is dedicated to the ownership and safe use of firearms for self-defense, competition, recreation and hunting. For more information about the coalition, please visit our website at www.nvfac.org

Yes. I signed on as NW Area Director.

I do hope to attend, but cannot yet guarantee it. Depends on work schedule.
