outdoor pistol range on private property

I posted this in General discussions as well.

This is a general legalese question:

I live on 5 acres in rural Lake County Florida, and outside city limits. I set up a 100ft pistol range in the back, and have been shooting on it for 5 years. I want to rent the range out on weekends and post it on Craigslist however, I have been unable to find any Florida statutes that cover a non-commercial shooting range. Open carry could also be an issue here on my property if they are not the owners..correct?

If anyone can help point me in the right direction, I would be grateful.

If you have a safe backstop you're good to go. Shooting on private property is very much protected in Fl. Open carry is lawful while others are shooting on your property per 790.25

Once you start to charge for use you have to follow Florida gun range laws. I think you should check this out:

Hi, Thanks for the link. It actually was the one site I checked before posting. My thought was to follow the rules in this regard. No one under 21 on the range, and since there will be no ammo sales involved, or rifles/shotguns, I was thinking I should be good.

well you will have to get gun range permits, Make sure your zoned for a gun range. I think your biggest problem will be with your homeowners Insurance. They may not like you having a Pay gun range in your backyard. Business license since this will be a business not a non commercial venture. As soon as you start to charge people to shoot on your property it changes the whole senario. If you dont get all the correct permits and licenses and such it would be really easy to get sued and lose everything if someone was accidentally shot or hurt in any way on your property. I would see no problem having friends over to shoot for no charge. As soon as you accept money it becomes a taxable venture and you need to follow all applicable laws.

Liability insurance might be something you'll want to look into.

And don't forget about the EPA lead removal and water aquifer drainage impact plan thingy that you must have with a commercial range. It was going to cost my range tens of thousands to get that thing done, but luckily we had a member that could do ours for free. Hundreds of thousands in fines if they catch you operating without it if I recall. It's been about ten years ago, so I can't remember all the hoops our board had to jump through. Crazy stuff.
