This is why PFZ's are idiotic, and OC in hospitals really isn't that hard to understand.

"A 17-year-old man is facing multiple sexual assault charges after police say he attacked a patient at the University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor in August.

University of Michigan Police Chief Greg O’Dell said patients and relatives of patients should be comforted by the quick response by investigators after the crime was reported.

“It’s something that’s very unusual to occur in that setting,” he said. “But people do commit criminal acts – they commit criminal acts everywhere. Obviously, we’re very concerned and we’re working with the staff there and hospital security.”"

People commit criminal acts everywhere, huh? Shocker.

and lets not forget the "quick Response" AFTER the crime was committed, I wonder why the 17 year old did not inform the police he was going to break the law!

So as a result they limit where we can carry firearms for our protection, with or without a CPL...makes sense.

most on the forum know this, but just wanted to point out for those that are new to oc that although open carry is lawful with cpl at most hospitals, it would be unlawful at this particular hospital as it is U of M property and they prohibit firearms, the penalty being a misdemeanor.

Unless you fall under an exception... don't forget those. Those exceptions may save you some day, if you know them and ASSERT them.

How is the U of M hospital different than others? Who makes OC illegal there? Is that just for students?

The Board of Regents has the right, under the MI Constitution, to set their own policies and are autonomous from state preemption. Hence they can ban firearms on campus property.

So does the "or is otherwise authorized by law to possess, discharge or use any device referenced below. " mean that an off duty LEO cannot carry there either?

Negative. The federal government has preempted ALL local and state governments so that credentialed officers and retired officers can carry under authority of their credentials while off duty in all 50-states, with certain exceptions.

LEOSA law.
