BLM has released proposed plans for the future management of nearly 1.4 million acres located southwest of Phoenix, in parts of Maricopa, Pinal, Pima, Gila and Yuma Counties. Of that total, over 486,000 acres are within the Sonoran Desert National Monument. The proposals can be found at: http://www.blm.gov/az/st/en/prog/planning/son_des.html ...

Two of the possible alternatives (“D” and “E”) propose closing the area to recreational shooters...:(

Few enter the monument on foot anyway. If so... they don't wander far from the road. As it is a Nat'l Park... there's never been shooting allowed in there... 'cept in self defense. Much of the BLM land is closed to any motorized traffic of any sort. If you go... it's on foot or horseback.

Yeah you guys in AZ, might fight this "Proposal" because in CA, there is no shooting on some BLM land
and they only give you one area to shoot, and a bad one at that. ( Roads)
If "Caught" target shooting in the other areas, you can get a $1,000 fine and 1 year in jail.
You can hunt in those areas though, in hunting season with a license.
I think that's discrimination, but what do i know.
Anyway beware of the BLM taking and controling your "Public Lands".
Its sad ! :(

As a former resident of AZ, and hopefully, a permanent future resident, I was steamed when I heard about what might happen. I am very happy the feds backed off. They will try this again, I have no doubt.
