Fear not, citizen. It is merely her way of telling you that you are too stupid to elect the right people so we'll just let the current crop have one last, unimpeded this time, whack at it.

Suspending elections is not by itself martial law. A lot depends on how/why elections are not happening.

stay safe.

You mean like the way elections stopped when Julius Caesar took over. And, his adopted son, Octavius (re-named Augustus) just sorta forgot to restart them?

:p

Say his name, even not as a proper noun, and he appears. Much like Mr. Mxyzptlk.

No, not like those two. In their case it was obvious that the proper folks were in office and therefore there was no need to consider replacing them.

In the current scenario the good Governor is willing to keep the small number of wrong folks in the legislature along with all those right folks.

stay safe.

I love how they think we're too stupid to see the obvious damage control her PR team is doing :banghead:

Perdue was discussing the economy, which she felt might be important enough to preclude elections…maybe. "You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things," she said.
"I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover."

Suspending Congressional Elections (taking away the citizen's choice in representation) so that they can "fix the economy" and leave in place some of the folks who have contributed massively to the TRILLIONS of dollars of bailouts, subsidies, and entitlements, in the hope they can "spend their way out" of the current economic crisis?

I suggest that upon the declaration of election suspension, the Governor would have to declare Martial Law to keep the subjects from revolting.

I am in no way advocating any sort of rebellion or even extreme demonstrations, but the reality of the situation in the USA is that we are a tinderbox of anger that just needs one spark to ignite. I also believe that this president and his croneys are trying to orchestrate an incident in which they can declare Martial Law across the nation in their ongoing effort to CHANGE this nation into some sort of socialist/communist nation. And that is CHANGE I don't want for my children!

This comment by the Govorner along with several other items that have been discussed here in this forum are really causing me a major disturbance. Evidently my subconscious is putting things together and when something else comes out, it really sends a chill up my spine. And this isn't the first time I have had this frisson of foreboding. My prediction is that we are within a year +/- 60days of Martial Law.

I would rather not wait any longer than necessary to boot the obstructionists out and vote some folks in that will make the people their priority.

I read through the article carefully, several times, and see no evidence she was serious about the suspension. What I see is that she was attempting to emphasize the need to continue the work.

Yes, I agree her PR people aren't helping. The governor didn't help herself with this ill-considered comment.

What I don't see is any evidence she's seriously considering suspending Congressional elections. Think for a minute: She's a Democrat, and the House is Republican. She has an incentive to allow the elections and perhaps regain the House.

On the other hand, things for the Dems aren't shaping up too well, so she may be attempting to stall the elections so as not to loose the Senate to the Republicans.

But I really don't see her comment as anything more than flippant.

That an elected official would even think this much less say it tells me she needs to step down. Collectivist beeyotch.
