Which path to take?

Two stories in the news this morning:

One party was prepared, the other was not. One situated ended OK, the other did not.

Great news in the former story, good to see that people are awaking up to the fact that owning a gun isn't a bad thing after all!

In the later link, it sounds as though the two stories are connected due to the likeness of the vehicles, under stress, facts tend to get mixed up.

The first story here shows that by a law abiding citizen carrying a firearm ( or as others would say "that thing") isn't a bad thing. It also shows just because you have a firearm it doesn't mean you will actually have to pull the trigger to save your life. If an armed assailant sees you walking with a firearm on the street they are going to steer clear of committing a crime because you are there and they know they won't be able to get away with it. This is a good example of a firearm saving someones life.

If that isn't reason alone for everyone to have a gun on their person and in their homes, I don't what is!

In regards to the first story, do you have to fire a warning shot in KY? Or can you shoot to kill, a.k.a. does KY have a Castle Doctrine law?

Warning shots are ALWAYS a bad idea, especially in an urban environment and will probably net you an illegal discharge inside of municipal limits charge.

Yes, Ky does have a castle doctrine law, as well as a stand your ground law. We have the law on our side when it comes to protecting ourselves, with lethal and physical force. You can check them yourself, it's Kentucky revised statute 503, and can be found at Ky.gov. As for a warning shot, that would be a terrible idea, regardless of what state you reside in. It could make the shooter seem very irresponsible in the eyes of officials and a possible judge and jury.
