For around $500, you can get a rock-solid primary carry firearm that'll last you 20 to 50 years, depending how well you take care of it and how often you fire it. I keep current with 50 rounds, 4x per year, for 200 rounds a year. Between my plinking for fun and taking friends shooting, it might be a maximum of 500 rounds per year.
Given my firearm has been known to routinely exceed 100,000 rounds before failure, if we take a safety factor of 5, that's 20,000 rounds. Divided by 500 rounds per year, that's 40 years, which takes me beyond the end of my life expectancy.
My point is, spend some good money on a well-built, accurate, long-lasting firearm that's well-priced, rather than over-priced. Once your properly armed, bide your time and save your bucks for a back-up gun of similar quality.
If you rush things, you're likely to spend far money money hunting around for what you really want, long-term.
