@ stainless1911 - if only you knew how long my brother had been after me to get one...

I actually bought it used, so I really don't know how many rounds have been through it yet! We didn't get the Winchester ammo, though...that much I know.

Thanks for all the tips.

Heh...found the smileys!!!!!

Its not too hard to learn.

Just do it. If you wait, all you're going to get is older. There's enough of that going around as it is.

There are two things you need to know carrying without a CPL, transportation, and gun free areas.

Transportation. The gun must be in a case designed for a firearm, and in the trunk of a vehicle. You must load/ unload the gun completely outside of the vehicle, you cant sit in the drivers seat and do it.

Gun Free Zones. The following link is a list of prohibited premises for non CPL holders. You may not carry (even locked in your trunk) on the premises of any of the following. The one thing that trips people up here, is that you cannot carry anywhere that has any license to sell alcohol of any kind, whether they sell alcohol or not. This includes Meijers, Krogers, some gas stations, as well as the bar.

http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(kw...g.aspx?page=getObject&objectName=mcl-750-234d

You also cannot carry in most casinos, schools, federal buildings, post offices, and secure areas of airports and jails.

Just know where you are, make sure you transport properly, and carry a digital voice recorder.

Ask any question you want, especially the "stupid" ones, and we can have you up to speed with open carry in no time. These are your rights, enjoy exercising them. :)

Yes. They do have a rep. for being ammo picky, especially when new. Mine wouldn't run American Eagle ammo. Now, many hundreds of round later, it'll eat just about anything I feed it. Common advice is to run a couple hundred rounds of FMJ, round nosed ammo (not the flat nosed stuff like Winchester White Box) before you start testing out hollow points.

My personal gun has fed Winchester White Box el-cheapo ammo just fine from the beginning but the same warranty center smith previously mentioned said that the majority of ammo related failures they've found were with flat-nosed ammo. Since he has a much wider sample size to draw from than I do I tend to believe him :D

I'm superstitious. The most ridiculous failure I've ever seen was with Pow'r Ball so I don't use it. The primer delaminated and a chunk of it got wedged between the firing pin and pin hole in the breech. It was a complete firing stoppage and the slide needed to be completely stripped down to clear it. Weirdest fail I'd seen.

Thanks, stainless! I bought a case a couple days after I got the gun so that I can actually take it places. Since I'm home most of the time, the only places I would have to "worry" about would be Target, Michael's, the post office and maybe the park...if I can manage to drag both kids out happily...lol

Bronson, that fail sounds pretty odd...even for a n00b like me! My brother grabbed me some PMC, so I'll see how that goes *hopefully* tomorrow. I'm itching to try this thing out!!!

Target sells alcohol (at least the one in my town does) so they're a no-go without a CPL. The Post Office is Federal so it is also a no-go...even with a CPL. Micheal's and the park should be ok :D

It was funny because it happened to my friend who was being an ass about his awesome new .357 Sig with the great ammo and how it was going to be soooo much better than anything we mere mortals had. Second shot the thing fails and locks up tighter than some appropriate similie of something that is locked up very tightly. We laughed and laughed and kept shooting while he was sad and gunless.

PMC has always worked well in mine, from what I see on the Bersa forums it seems to normally work well in most people's Bersa .380s.

Get on Google and look up "limp wristing" because a straight blowback pistol design, like the Bersa, is said to be more susceptible to it than other designs. Basically you need to lock your wrist so it doesn't flop around under recoil. The gun uses the energy of the fired round to cycle the slide which ejects the spent casing and loads the next round from the magazine to the chamber. If your wrist is floppy it absorbs some of that energy and can cause the gun to short cycle and jam. Don't mistake a death grip on the gun for a locked wrist. If the gun is jamming one good test to determine if it's you or the gun is to have an experienced shooter try it out. If they don't have the same jamming problems then it's you. I've seen many posts on the Bersa forum where this has happened.

Have fun, be safe, and shoot that thing

Yes - The Target by me sells alcohol too. I knew Michael's would be gravy. :)

The hubby and I went to Costco yesterday, and I said I had to go put the gun away. He said "Why? You've got a case to put it in in the car, right?" I said "Yeah, but I can't carry it in Costco." The conversation continued like this...
Him: why not?
Me: Because I don't have a CPL.
Him: So?
Me: They sell alcohol...
Him: OK...so?
Me: I can't carry in a store that has a liquor license without a CPL.
Him: You can OC right?
Me: No...they sell alcohol
Him: *completely confused look*
Me: Ok...I can't carry...AT ALL in a place that has a liquor license right now. Costco sells alcohol, so I'm pretty sure they have a liquor license...meaning, I can't carry there.
Him: Why can't you OC there?
Me: BECAUSE I CAN'T CARRY IN A PLACE THAT HAS A LIQUOR LICENSE WITHOUT A CPL!!!!
Him: Oh.

It gave me a good chuckle at least! LOL

It is also against your costco membership rules you signed. They dont permit OC or CC, w/ or w/o a CPL.

Good to know! The membership was free anyways :D

Here's my final target from tonight. Shot from 21 ft, my brother shot the last clip (the ones at the top are his...he was aiming at the top...lol). The rest are mine. Quite proud of myself considering I've only ever shot 2 other pistols! Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic...

I put almost 150 rounds through it (my 2 cases and another case of Winchester). Only had one give us a little problem, and yes, it was one of the Winchester. I did have a few bulls eyes on the other targets...

You weren't on Costco's premises (including parking lot) with the gun were you? Even keeping the gun in your vehicle in the parking lot is illegal without a CPL. Not saying you did since it's not clear by what you said just want to make sure.
Sec. 234d. (1) Except as provided in subsection (2), a person shall not possess a firearm on the premises of any of the following:

So really not only can you not carry there but you can't have it on their property at all.
