    CPL Renewal duration

How about some anecdotes about how long your last CPL renewal took?

I'm at 50 days now waiting. Sucks because mine expires in 3 days, but if it takes another 10 days then i can carry around my Oakland County Clerk receipt as proof for extension. Might have a 7 day black out if it doesn't come quickly.

In Kent County, I turned my renewal application in on May 3, 2011. My license expired on July 12, 2011. I received my renewal in the mail on September 9, 2011. The CPL date listed on the permit was September 1, 2011. Luckily, since I had submitted my renewal application and gotten a receipt at that time, I could continue to carry between July 12 and September 9.

Currently I know an individual who submitted his application for an original to Kent County the first part of September. He has been told, I believe, that it could be January or February until he receives it. When he last spoke with me a few days ago, the county clerk's office said that they hadn't even sent out for the background check.

Kent County is, I believe the worst in the State of Michigan regarding timelines.

Did you write Sen. Green's office about this?

For me, renewals have gone pretty smoothly. I have been renewing with typically 60 days before my CPL expires, and I've been getting it back in about 45 days or less.

For me, the nightmare was when I first applied. It took 113 days from the day I submitted my application to the day I got a card in the mail saying I could pick up my permit at the county clerks office.

My last renewal here in Lapeer county took only around 45 days all together. It took my friend over 3 months to get his new permit in Oakland county.

I too have my clerks receipt, but I have an 8 day period where CPL isn't valid, because the birthday/experation date was november 13, but the receipt says I cannot use it for carry until november 21 (I didn't plan for this to take so long ahead of time, because the receipt is dated to 60 days after renewal submittal, next time I'll plan to do it a least a couple weeks earlier in september. Oh well, half my black out time frame is already over.

I live in Macomb county and it took 33 days to get my CPL in the mail.

Fill out application, new picture, and the renewal payment and bring to county clerk. You attest on the application that you have had three hours of renewal training. Make sure you do this at least 60 days from renewal; then the receipt the clerk gives you serves as the renewal CPL if they don't do it by then.

    Cool Thx

So there is really no need to do it more than 60 days before?
    Wayne county is slow....
