Is carry in a hospital legal? How about the carry of a loaded magazine?

One of my doctors at Reston Hospital has offices right next to the hospital. His office building just posted so I told him I was gonna have to change doctors.. he said if anyone ever says anything to me, to tell them HE gave me permission.

As I said, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is not posted. I checked them thoroughly both in January/February and again in April/May when my aunt was there for rehab after her fall, and later subdermal hematoma. They may have a policy against carry, but they have done nothing to communicate it to anyone visiting.

As such, until they communicate such a policy to me, there is no law that prohibits my carrying there. Once they have communicated such a policy to me, then the only law that would prohibit it would be the law concerning tresspass.

If they are part of VCU, they may be covered under VAC regulation which does have the force of law. Won't get into that right now on this very public forum as there are several things in the works that would be premature to disclose.

Do some digging and see if you can find out how they are structured and then get back with me off-line.

Unfortunately, that does absolutely nothing to dispel every other evil of "Gun Free Zones" that we have ever taken the time to articulate.

I have OCd in 4 different hospitals in Va.

In one I was escorted to Skidmark's room by their chief of security. Will have to check with Skid as to which hospital this was.

Stand by.

Chippenham Hospital's Chief of Security accompanied you to my room when you visited - he did not escort you.

The three of us had a very pleasant conversation, and then we had another pleasant conversation with the Floor Nurse. No minds were changed, but toleration was secured.

And for the record, I have not been in that many hospitals that Grape should have any difficulty remembering which one. It's just that between the two of us we recently have been making too many starring appearances.

stay safe.

Actually I was thinking about an occasion towards NoVa - wasn't there a similar situation there associated with the demise of your private vehicle?

Just a reminder that in the case of VCU et al, with their Admin Code regulation, our AG recently advised that this is a civil rule and not a criminal law. Their only recourse is to ask you to leave under the threat of a trespassing charge, which is not a gun charge.

Yes, that one as well was someone accompanying you. That person had no authority to waive a hospital rule but apparently took it upon themself to both accompany you and accomodate our mutual situation. He would have had to waive the existing policy (for which I believe a written copy was produced - but that might have been Chippenham instead) to escort you, as (well, duh!) policy prohibitted what you were doing.

About the only meaning of escort that would fit either event would be
n. 1. a. One or more persons accompanying another to guide, protect, or show honor.
Since you had directions on how to get to where I was there was no need to guide you. Being as you were armed and they were not they could not protect you. Given who was involved, the last option is a nullity on the face of the situation.

stay safe.

Cannot cite a statute/restriction that does not exist. It is the absence of such that leaves it legal both for those w/permits and w/o.
