dual function ear plugs

So my wife just came back from a couple more weeks of more army training, and brought me these cool ear plugs.

they have 2 sides, yellow and green.

yellow= allows hear-through capability with instant protection from impulse noises (i.e. weapons fire or explosive devices)

green= provides continuous noise reduction to ambient noises such as aircraft, armored vehicle or machiner.

i haven't had a chance to try them around gun fire yet, but i can hear a significant difference between the yellow side and the green side just in conversation.
