Deputy accidentally shot while changing in jail locker room

    http://www.wtvr.com/news/wtvr-sherif...tory?track=rss

HENRICO COUNTY, VA (WTVR) - A Henrico County Sheriff's Deputy was taken to the hospital Thursday morning after accidentally shooting herself in the hip while changing in the jail locker room, according to Henrico County Sheriff Mike Wade.

No one was next to the deputy when she was shot, however there were people in a nearby meeting room Sheriff Wade told WTVR.com.

He said the jail does have safety protocols designed to prevent these kinds of shootings.

Henrico County police are investigating the incident.

The deputy, a 10-year veteran of the sheriff's office, was conscious and breathing when she was taken to the hospital, Wade said.

He said the shooting happened around 7:20 Thursday morning while the deputy was preparing for her sergeant's interview.

Sounds more like a negligent discharge to me.

I'm guessing she didn't get that promotion then?

The one Henrico Deputy I know carries a Sig P220.

Would guess that she failed to report at the appointed time and place in the proper uniform.

That's got to be a lousy way to start your day.

They carried G22's when I was there...not sure about now but I imagine it hasn't changed.

If she's been there 10 years, I probably know her....got to get a name.

Right before her Sergeant's interview? ouch!

All of the information I have indicates that Henrico Sheriff's Dept changed over from Sig Sauer .45s to Glock .40 cal back in 2005 - don't know what model of either.

Town Police Supply gave them a no cost trade for the then 18 month old Sigs.

That can't be correct. We had G19s when I got there in '97 and we switched to .40 about 2-3 yrs later.

You are thinking about the PD....they switched from Sigs to Glocks.

    Just saw this...,

I'm puttin' my money on the Glock, any takers? Guess she was in the ladies room for the "Safely Holstering Your Weapon" blurb that the rest of those highly trained professionals get.

    She wasn't the first.

One deputy one time fired warning shots on a work release inmate who was walking away from a job.....she eventually made it to Captain.

At one time, they gave the recruits their guns during the academy. One knucklhead decides to carry his gun to the mall and ends up shooting off his side view mirror, and almost his girlfriend before the bullet landed in his hand.....taxpayers paid his salary for almost a year before they fired him.....

    and then.....

    oh, I better stop.

I sent my friend over at the Henrico Sherriff's office an email asking, what make/model they are issued and if they are allowed to carry anything else as a primary.

Will post answer when I get a reply.

I've got a few I could tell too, but I'm not gonna tell 'em here either.

Unless something else has happened at my range in the last few weeks, I believe that the last two self inflicted gunshot incidents we've had there were LEO's, one was an "Instructor", and at least one of them was a Glock.

You know how I feel about Glocks, right? Just saying'.

Way back when, I was handed a Glock - it felt good, looked very business like and seemed to have a lot going for it. I asked where was the thumb safety? Receiving the standard answer, I gave it back. End of story.

I'm still working on the ol' muscle memory thing......every day. Don't want to confuse that issue.

Imagine that. I ran across a negligent discharge several weeks ago. Guess the make and caliber? I don't want to go into too much detail, but it wasn't pretty.

Hey folks, look over on the Michigan site...,

another "Instructor" shot himself in the leg. Gee, wonder what make and caliber it was (as if you and I don't already know), man, this is easier than shootin' fish in a barrel, or a LEO, Instructor, or LEO Instructor shooting themselves with a Glock.

Be sure and check out the "related stories" in blue too so you can get to the really funny stuff like "it was just a graze wound, he probably just put a band aid on it", Police later found out that it was a "Through and through wound."
