C.T. state law states that there is no minimum age to posses a long gun, but what about having one unloaded in your car to go to the range? is there a difference between transporting and possessing?

Well, CT law does give minimum age of 18 to possess a rifle or shotgun. Anyway, the answer to your question is they may be transported unloaded in a vehicle, no problem alt al as long as the person transporting is not a prohibited person.

Thats not true. At 12 a child can hunt in CT, kinda hard to do without possessing a rifle. I believe the law is about ownership not possession.
