    Confronting a robber

This is one reason, if the robbery is completed, I wouldn't get involved.

Robbery completed and robber on the way out of the store? Dial 911, observe from a safe distance, and report as much as possible. Direct involvement? No. I carry a gun to protect myself and my wife. I am not law enforcement and I am most definitely not paid (anymore) to risk my life.

I will say that this federal agent most probably thought that he was doing the right thing and I won't second-guess that. Sad that he lost his life doing what he thought was right.

As a side note, take notice in the link how many LEOs are shooting other LEOs in NY.
Blommie can't blame this on gun laws in other states - a string of shootings of off-duty officers in the New York area who were responding to a crime.

what part of 'off duty' and 'retired' is not understood

    i am sooo confused...

why these 'off-duty' and 'retired' individuals felt the need to interceed in something that was so innocuous and for all intents and purposes finished.

an off-duty, 51 yo veteran fed agent whose field of expertise is 'teaching' explosive ordinance, decides he is going subdue a younger BG and gets into a good olde wrestling match w/the perp...

also wonder how many brews the deli gentleman were enjoying...(interesting to note...'they went and got their firearms!!) and they decide to draw down on two men wrestling in the pharmacy...

finally, (nobody sees a problem with this aspect of the story) why is the honorable state rep being interviewed for this news story let alone being so actively involved at all??? what is his agenda in this...

bottom line, it would appear bad judgement was exercised resulting in the death of a individual and the perp got the death penalty for something that might have been minimal jail time, if caught, depending on his previous record. two individuals need to live with the fact they took two lives over some replaceable, money and drugs.

this was a tragic event for all concerned.

PS: final thought...i personally, nor should you, do not give a rat's arse about the victim's occupation or who their employer is but rather learn from the story and be a live and knowledgeable witness. i also truly wonder if the state rep would be involved over 'john q public' getting shot?? I also do not feel it would have made it to the news editor's desk in the first place!!

PPS: can anybody tell me if the 'retired' whatever be charged w/manslaughter since they took someones life and not associated w/an agency?

    Moved post

I am sooooo sorry. I posted this in the NC section as I thought it would be of interest to my fellow Carolinians as part of ongoing discussion of when to get involved (or not) to stop criminal acts. My point was that you can't necessarily tell who's who and someone, probably the samaritan, will get hurt. In this case, it seems the responders from the deli did all the shooting. Further in the story it was indicated that a similiar case involving LEO-on-LEO shooting had also occurred.

    Red face

I read the "Post" article and maybe its just my suspicious nature but they danced very carefully around the issue of not coming right out and saying who shot the agent but adding all that background about cops shooting other cops. Perhaps I'm just trying to make 2+2=5 or something equally rediculous but I've been paranoid so long I think everyone is out to get me. Just thinking out loud.

And just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
