I've never known them to allow carry at all. The place will be packed but no one will question the law. We're sheep!

The "law" would seem clear - owned by the city - cannot ban firearms.

If on the other hand you meant "rule," Can a venue/lessee/promoter change a condition of state law in such a fashion? In Virginia they can (according to our lawyers) as the venue becomes private property and admission is only gained by ticket whereon you agree to abide by their rules.

I am always amazed at the lack of logic/common sense in banning/restricting firearms where both such firearms and ammunition can be and are acquired.

Civic Centers are very often licensed to sell alcohol. Even if they are not selling at this event, if they have a permit to sell alcohol for on premises consumption then they can say no firearms. As long as it's posted in a manner reasonably likely to come to the attention of patrons. Which I'm sure it will be. Even if it is owned by the city, when you look up the definition for the license it includes Civic Centers.

It depends. I don't know if they are licensed for on premises consumption of alcohol. I also don't know if they post it no firearms. From what Maine CWP states it seems they don't post it, therefore it would be legal.

why?
Carrying @ Show

My Souces tell me..."DO NOT...I REPEAT...DO NOT CARRY AT A GUN SHOW....EVER !!!"

There is a Checkpoint at entrance, sometimes with LEO at checkpoint "Charlie" and what happens IF there is an "issue"... i do not know what transpires?

Apparently there have been unfortunate occurances at other gun shows when someone wants to try out their piece in a new holster or see how much they can get for a trade, then..........OOPS!!!! "Sorry I Just Shot Your/My "BLANK" OFF.....=....MEDIC in AISLE # 9 !!!"

Well, enough with the horror stories, and YES, I agree that RKBA should have NO strings attached, however, in an event such as this, I'd rather err on the side of caution.

See y'all at the show, 'til next time....Peace & Love Bro's !!! ;<)

A little COMMON SENSE goes a LONG ways !

I have gone in the past. I don't usually go to gun shows anymore as a rule because of the cost. The last one I went to was eight bucks and wall to wall people with only venders. I can go to my local shops and they won't charge me nickle to come in the door and won't question me if I carry firearm. Anyhow more to the point, there will be sign at the door posting no firearms. I don't believe it's because of the law but policy of the vender. (Don't quote me on that) You could go to there website and ask them by email which I would suggest.

Had to laugh (derisively) at the "check point Charlie" thing - that was the demarcation between socialism and freedom.

Changing this won't be either easy or quick - you'll just have to deal with it for now. However, to "err on the side of caution" is the mantra of the antis - it is their excuse for all gun control laws. I submit that the occurrences of AD/NDs vs carry incidents in such a setting as similar to this = .000001% Think it is less about insurance regs than it is fear of bad PR.

In Virginia I can and do carry, but all guns must be confirmed as safe = checked and zip tied. No guns left in vehicle that way and then holster fit, trade etc. is not a problem. I do my own in my vehicle before entering and when leaving I'm 5 sec. away from condition #1. That is a "common sense" compromise.

Common sense is carrying absolutely everywhere that you are allowed to do so, 24/7. Common sense is also, never drawing your carry firearm unless your lift is in danger. I say, if it's not posted... then they shouldn't be checking for weapons anyway because legally it is aloud. If it is posted, just put it in the glove box and lock the door... not that hard really. We're putting WAY too much thought into this, treat it just like any other business that your going to patronize. Of course if there was a no firearms sign I wouldn't patronize the business just out of sheer pity for their ideological viewpoint.

There were dozens of open carry peeps at the State of Maine Sportsman's Show at the Augusta Civic Center in April. Who knows how many concealed carry?

If there's a sign on the door, it holds the weight of law. That email doesn't.
