LAS CRUCES, N.M. Mesilla Valley pecan farmer Greg Daviet prides himself on his friendliness. But this time of year, he totes a gun around his farm and pays security guards to make the rounds through his orchards, day and night.

"I'm a friendly guy, but during pecan season, I have to walk around armed all time, so thieves know this is not a place to come," he said.

Oh no! Someone might get hurt trying to steal pecans!

Maybe they should have thought of that before they decided to steal them.

People can be incredibly bold about it.

There is an entire category of guns dedicated to varmint control.
Don't believe any facts that I say! This is the internet and it is filled with lies and untruth. I invite you to look up for yourself the basic facts that my arguments might be based upon. This way we can have a discussion where logic and hints on where to find information are what is brought to the forum and people look up and verify facts for themselves.

My dad is originally from Texas. The spike in prices is probably due to the drought in Texas and the rest of the Gulf Coast states. An uncle in Texas who passed away several years ago used to water pecan trees for somone else. This year my aunt in San Angelo lost both of her pecan trees in her yard due to the drought.

Federal authorities said Friday they've taken down two major drug trafficking and money laundering operations in different parts of New Mexico, one involving an Albuquerque firefighter and the other southern New Mexico pecan growers.
