Angry HB 1226: Regulating firearms by educational institution.

HB 1226: Regulating firearms by educational institution.

Regulating firearms by educational institution. Provides that the board of visitors or other governing body of an educational institution has the power to establish rules and regulations for the possession or transportation of firearms or ammunition on property owned or operated by the institution.

    A. In addition to the powers now enjoyed by it, the board of visitors or other governing body of every educational institution shall have the power:

    9. To establish rules and regulations for the possession or transportation of firearms or ammunition on property owned or operated by the institution. Such rules and regulations may include a ban on the possession or transportation of firearms or ammunition on property owned or operated by the institution by all students, faculty, or employees of the institution, or by any other person attending events on or otherwise visiting property owned or operated by the institution regardless of whether such student, faculty, employee, or other person possesses a valid concealed weapons permit pursuant to 18.2-308.

This will quickly find it's rightful place near the top of VCDL's "MUST BE DEFEATED" list of legislation. This would enable every college and university in the state to completely ban firearms from all school-owned or operated property.

This bill is the exact opposite of what it should be! No college or university receiving public funding should be allowed to ban lawful carry on campus!

Any chance Speaker Howell will stick it in his pocket and "forget" it's there?

here what I think we should do

if someone wants to introduce a bill allowing an institution that is public to regulate firearms then we should ask our representatives to not support it. In addition we should ask our representatives to create a bill that will specifically state that citizens are allowed to carry a firearm onto campuses for self defense.
