I think the real question should be more like "why doesn't the State protect ALL civil rights"? One of the most basic reasons for government is the protection of the rights of citizens. The right to bear arms is at least as important as the right to worship or vote or remain silent when questioned by police. Why is only the one right infringed?

Also, why isn't the State doing everything it can to create a safe environment for students & staff?
It goes on a bit from there.
