Feb. 14th gun owners assemble at Starbucks to show support

Anti-gun groups are going to be protesting and boycotting Starbucks on Feb. 14 because of their stance on firearms (that they follow state law) and won't ban the possession in their stores. There are many gun groups that are going to be at Starbucks to show support for their stance, so go buy a cup and hang out for a bit and let them know why you are there that day. Many people in MI will be showing our support for Starbucks that day, I thought our Indiana neighbors might want to do the same.

Starbucks' "Pro-Gun" Policy Prompts Gun Victims' Group to Launch Nationwide Boycott

A nationwide boycott of Starbucks stores and its products will be launched on Valentine's Day 2012. Its goal is to eliminate the risk of guns in public places and ultimately to bring sane gun laws to the U.S.

This boycott is being called by the National Gun Victim's Action Council (NGAC), a network of 14 million gun victims, the faith community including the: Episcopal Peace Fellowship, United Church of Christ, Fellowship of Reconciliation (46 peace fellowships and 43 affiliate fellowships), secular groups working to reduce gun violence and many of the organizations that support passing sane gun laws.

WHY STARBUCKS? Currently, Starbucks allows guns and assault weapons to be openly carried in its stores (in 43 states) and concealed and carried in its stores (in 49 states) (See Photos). Starbucks' compliance with the National Rifle Association's Pro-Gun Agenda was exposed in 2010 when members of the "open carry" movement began meeting in popular chains, such as California Pizza Kitchen, Peets, IKEA, Disney and Starbucks openly carrying their handguns and assault rifles. (Types of Guns)

To protect their customers and employees, all of the retail chains—except for Starbucks— banned guns from being carried in their stores.

"Starbucks allowing guns to be carried in thousands of their stores significantly increases everyone's risk of being a victim of gun violence," says Elliot Fineman, CEO of the NGAC. "Open and conceal and carry are among the reasons there are 12,000 gun homicides each year in the U.S. If we had England's gun laws we would expect 375 gun homicides each year—97% less than we have. England's gun laws are based on protecting public safety, ours on maximizing sales for the gun industry." Non-Sane Gun Laws

Starbucks has the legal right to ban guns but despite having been petitioned by thousands, asked at a shareholder meeting, and a direct appeal made to their Board, Starbucks clings to this policy that puts millions of Americans at risk every day and encourages the spread of guns being carried in public.

I don't drink coffee but I'll make sure to buy a cup on the 14th. Their crap about all retail chains banning guns is crap. What about the chains, like Best Buy, that allow carry as long as state law allows it?

Antigunners, in protest of Starbucks policy allowing all lawful carry in their stores, will be boycotting Starbucks on Valentines Day. I think as gun owners we should show Starbucks our support by giving them our business. Imagine if Starbucks actually sees an increase in sales despite the antigunners boycott.

I personally do not drink coffee but I'll make sure to buy a cup that day. Here is a facebook event started by Michigan Open Carry. You do not have to open carry or concealed carry for that matter just make sure to give Starbucks your business on Valentines day. Be cool to see how many people we can get to join the event on FB.

    BUYcott Starbucks on February 13 – 15

    BUYcott Starbucks on February 13 – 15

Let’s counter with a BUYcott. On February 13, 14 & 15, please make the effort to go to Starbucks and buy something. Don’t like their coffee? Get a tea, a cocoa, a pastry, anything. Thank the clerk for Starbucks’ support of the Constitution. And here’s the cool bit . . .
Pay with two dollar bills. Thomas Jefferson, Mr. Liberty himself. If Starbucks sees a huge influx of payment in two dollar bills, people in general, and Starbucks management in particular, are sure to notice.

    Letter to Starbucks:
It has come to my attention that a small group of anti-civil rights activists are calling for a boycott of your company on Valentine's Day.
Starbucks has communicated a policy that local stores are to use local laws pertaining to the civil, and more importantly, our God given right to self protection. Starbucks should be lauded for respecting that right and I want to first express my gratitude for your establishing this common sense policy.

Second, I will be visiting my local store that day to show my support for your policy.

Third, I am contacting my friends, neighbors and relatives to do so as well.

Finally, the Indiana Gun Owners forum is rallying support as well. This forum has over 19,000 members and we hope to get every last one of us into one of your stores at least once on that day.

If you care to see what is being discussed there, go to:http://ingunowners.com/forums/genera..._our_help.html

    Thanks for your time.
    Reply from Starbucks:
    Dear John,

Thank you for contacting Starbucks Coffee Company.

Thank you for your feedback regarding Starbucks' policy on open carry laws.

At Starbucks, we deeply respect the views of our customers and recognize that there is significant and genuine passion surrounding the issue of open carry weapons laws. We comply with local laws and statutes in the communities we serve. Our long-standing approach to this issue remains unchanged and we abide by the laws that permit open carry in 43 U.S. states. Where these laws don't exist, openly carrying weapons in our stores is prohibited.

As the public debate around this issue continues, we encourage customers and advocacy groups from both sides to share their input with their public officials. We are extremely sensitive to the issue of gun violence in our society and believe that supporting local laws is the right way for us to ensure a safe environment for both partners and customers.

If you have any further questions or concerns that I was unable to address, please feel free to let me know.

    Warm Regards,
    Kelsey F

Starbucks is to coffee what McDonalds is to hamburgers.

Having shared that, I will try to stop by and buy a cup of their overpriced mud on the 14th.

South Bend Chocolate Company, a Hoosier-owned, pro-gun local company, normally gets my recreational coffee funds, so I might be buying coffee twice that day.

I hope everyone realizes that a single day (to show 'support' for Starbucks) won't exactly fit the ($2) bill.

The boycott *STARTS* on 2/14 and has no specific end date.

Thus, a frequent (weekly?) visit might be of significance, especially paying with the $2 bill.
I open carry because if a bad guy attacks me anyway, I am best prepared to respond appropriately, with minimal fuss, and my bearing of a firearm is not infringed by having to lift my shirt, pull back my jacket, or unzip some pouch. Forcing people to carry concealed is an infringement on the right to keep and bear arms.

I do know that it has been reported that some banks here in Michigan have run out of $2 bills the last week.
