It seems Ebbin wants to spread his hatred nationwide. Ironic, for a gay right activist, don't you think?

State Legislators Announce Coalition To Prevent Gun Violence
State Legislators from across the U.S. announced the creation of a nonpartisan coalition focused on gun violence prevention Monday.

The group, dubbed American State Legislators For Gun Violence Prevention (ASLGVP), said that they feel the need to take action seeing as, “Congress [has] failed in its responsibility to do something about this issue [of gun violence].”

“We are a coalition that is united by a common desire to find strategies that will work in our states, and that we believe will move the conversation forward and reduce gun violence across America,” said founding Assemblyman, and now chair, Brian Kavanagh (D-NY).

..

The group claims to currently have nearly 200 members from all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico, but will not yet publish the list of members, fearing political backlash.

ASLGVP plans to address a range of issues, including: domestic violence and the presence to guns, how to effectively intervene in communities impacted by gun violence, mandatory background checks when purchasing a firearm in any arena and, overall, the way laws in one state may effect the trafficking of guns across state lines into another.

“In 2012, Virginia was rated number 2 in the nation in terms of guns found at crime scenes in different states. There were 250,047 Virginia guns found in those out of state crime scenes,” said Assemblyman[sic] Adam Ebbin (D-VA). “In Virginia we are proud of being a exporter of micro chips and for building naval ships, but we should be embarrassed by the number of deadly weapons we supply to criminals.”

In 36 states buyers do not currently need to undergo a background check when purchasing firearms from a gun show, and in 4 states there are required background checks only for the purchase of handguns.

“This is not about impeding people’s second amendment rights; it is about stopping criminals and saving lives,” said Ebbin.

...

The ASLGVP will hold their first official meeting on Tuesday in Washington, DC.

Also, see here:
Eight of the nine who spoke Monday were Democrats, and Kavanagh refused to name all 200 initial members, or who was funding the new group.

...

[Missouri State Rep. Stacey] Newman said at the press conference that "in my state, the NRA has bought the majority party, who are in control of our legislature." But she vowed to continue trying to reduce gun violence, and said she is writing a bill modeled after one passed in California that would allow authorities or family members to get restraining orders keeping guns out of the hands of people who show signs of harming themselves or others.

She said in an interview that she hoped the coalition would provide assurance to legislators that legislators in other states are working on similar issues, and that it would also show citizens that reducing gun violence has broad national support.

Newman said that moderate Republicans in Missouri personally support her "but they don't have the nerve to stand up and cast a vote because they are punished" by the NRA and other run rights groups.

Punished? the NRA bought the majority party?

Another Doomberg sockpuppet?

Great question! As quoted:

Kavanagh refused to name all 200 initial members, or who was funding the new group.

Well sure, do tell us who is funding your new group!

Oh look, it's based in New York City:

Statement from Senator Ebbin in the Press Release

His statement, for what it's worth:
Though we may have different approaches, we are united in our desire to stop gun violence. I am proud to join with legislative colleagues from every state as we seek to end the horrific reality of gun deaths in our states and across this country. American lives are lost every day -- rural, suburban and urban; young and old; privileged, middle class and poor in every region. There are tens of thousands of losses of life each year, tens of thousands of injuries each year; each an individual tragedy imploring us to do better.

The thing about a group like this is, if they're not careful, they'll get the cops disarmed as well.

Call 'em up and say you'll give them 375,000 dollars but you first need 15,000 for the gold that you would convert to cash to get through customs.
