Just curious if anyone has an idea of the turn around time for an AZ license application recently. I sent mine in from WI just over a month ago, just curious is all. Thanks!

We are now running on a new, and hopefully much-improved, server. In addition we are also on new forum software. when I got it this time last year....2 weeks mailbox to mailbox. I just requested a app packet for my wife...they are now saying 6-8 weeks processing time.

After the most recent legislative changes, DPS threw a fit. The law now says any NRA certified instructor can teach a course and it's good for proof of training. Doesn't have to be an NRA course, just taught by NRA instructor.
First, they said they would no longer provide legal information for instructors, then they cut staff. They also no longer approve instructors or deal with instructors at all except to mail out app packets for students.
Now they're getting a big influx of out of state apps, so the turnaround time is way up.

The Arizona CCW permit is a new tourism industry.
After the passage of Constitutional Carry in 2010, permit issuance was still on the rise and peaked in June 2011 at 162,896. Then it started to fall, reaching a low of 162,212 in September 2011.
Since then, and probably due to the out of state interest, the latest CCW stats show a rise to 163,143 permits as of November 6th.
As an FYI, permit fees do not go to the DPS budget. They are shuttled to the general fund.
Probably a better solution would be to shift the permit processing to some other licensing division better equiped to handle these things. Florida's permit handling had been in both their "State" department and their Agriculture department.

I'm assuming that onestar 50 is referring to the limited constitutional carry in Arizona. Meaning if we get a permit do we have to carry concealed, or can we still carry open, can we still carry partially concealed, etc.?
And yes, the most significant reasons for getting a CWP in AZ are reciprocation, increased carry options, and background checks.
