First Friday/Fremont Street Experience, no firearms

Was concealing last night downtown for first Friday, they had all entrances to the canopy area blocked off with private security/LVMPD doing ID, bag checks and pat down/metal detector screening. Had signage with prohibitive items listed, including firearms. I attempted to pass through but was denied, I inquired on the legalality of their actions seeing as Fremont is publicly funded private property. Anyone have any info on Fremont's oublic /private property status?

I was there Monday night with no security checkpoints and I was going to OC but because we were going to be going in and out of casinos I opted not to. We were entertaining out of town guests for the night.

We normally go in by parking at Binion's and walking through to the canopy area. I wonder if they were screening that as well? We go down there all the time and I've never seen them do that except when there's a special event with an entrance fee. Seems to me to be a public street but I'm not sure myself how it's designated.

I do know that we went into the container park and it's a no-carry zone in itself (though totally private).

A few years ago we tried to enter an street activity just off Fremont Street and denied entry. I do not remember the exact conversation. Words to this affect. The promoter had a permit to hold the function, which supposedly gave them the power to say who is allowed in. Metro was call and we did talk to them they agreed with the prompters. I believe Merlin did some follow up on that encounter with little or no success. One of those gray areas where if one was willing to get arrested and had the time and money to fight it could be a good chance to show them their errors. A risk most law abiding hard working pro-gun owners not willing to take.

If you think its a 2nd amendment or other constitutional point, you need not be arrested but can file in federal court to argue the same points as if you were arrested.

Unfortunately the case will be dismissed, citing no harm. In civil court, harm is a major element that has to be shown to recover damages. The NRA case Hanes V North Las Vegas comes to mind. Hanes was a resident of NLV, but had never been adversely affected by the pre-empted law, the court dismissed as Hanes had no harm. The City of NLV also recovered attorneys fees in that case, It was a big loser and could have easily been avoided. It does not always take an arrest, I won an $8000.00 judgement from the Nevada Sheriffs and Chiefs, utilizing the Nevada open records law, Put them into a chess match, and run their own game at them... It is our money, they will give you some.

I went down to Fremont to meet up with a high school friend about a month ago, I went concealed because I didn't know how this girl would react to seeing me armed. Nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary, except for the freak show that Fremont has become.

We went to container park, noticed the sign, went on in anyway.

I usually park at the California, validate, and then walk to Fremont Street. Even if there were security checkpoints there are literally 1000 different ways to get street access down there, as Rancid would say: "I ain't worried, bout a god damned thing."

I'm a bit confused because I attended First Friday many years ago, but it was no where near the Fremont Street Experience, but in the "arts district" (off of Charleston). They just celebrated their 12th year.

When I think of FF, I don't think of Fremont, I think of this...

Did you try accessing the arts district at all? I don't see how they could deny entry to anyone since there are so many ways - alleys and side streets - to slip into that area, which is closed off to cars, pedestrians only.
