With nearly every mass shooting recently—and throughout history—occurring in a gun-free zone, there's been a resurging dialogue among law-abiding concealed carriers urging politicians to eliminate these crime-targeted areas once and for all.

And in Michigan, it looks like people are listening.

According to guns.com, “A pair of bills in the state Senate that would swap the current ability for permit holders to open carry in Michigan pistol-free zones for the right to concealed carry, won approval in committee Tuesday.”

It’s high time we put that argument—and gun-free zones across the country—to bed where they belong.

Repeal 28.425o and be done with it. No need to create new bills that cause even more confusing carry laws, criminalize OC and create more CPL disqualifications.

Burn that bill to the ground and scatter the ashes. It's one of the worst pieces of legislation to go through Lansing in years.

repealing 28.425o would accomplish the same thing (and more) and not create any new/more laws/penalties

This craptastic bill was written in response to a bunch of paranoid chicken little types freaking out over parents who OC in their children's schools and people in public libraries. It seeks to make current license holders pay more OR wait till they renew in order to get the "exemption" that would allow CC in GFZ's.

It's a kneejerk reaction that does nothing but trod on LAC's abilities and rights in the name of supposed safety. It will do absolutely nothing to prevent mass casualty incidents. It makes no proviso for accidental showings of firearms. It allows for mob retaliation if someone knows you have a gun and are in the school, doesn't agree with it, and then lies saying that you showed your weapon.

In short, it imposes an undue burden on carriers for zero tangible good effect.

Ugh. I am fully for the elimination of GFZ's but this... this is NOT the way to do it. All this is.... it's some shmuck pandering to the libtards who wrong their hands and cry anytime someone says "boo" around a child. Lest we forget, elections are next year.

The OP is a copy and paste from a USCCA alert.
I linked a thread about the USCCA and the alert's author to show that they are not without controversy.

But the point isn't whether or not Schmidt's organization is good for CC activism, the real point is that a bill to placate CCers while throwing OC under the bus doesn't even do that well, and there's stuff in it that's bad for CC.

Just another person asking for permission to do what you have always have had the right to do and to agree to limit our RKBA.

Don't support gun laws; doing so indicates that you agree that the government can regulate.
