I saw this on another forum. Thought it might be a hoax. Its not. If you just type in 22 ammo and hit the shopping link. No items come up. Now try that with say, umbrella, lots of things pop up. So its true it seems.

As for Google, I am not surprised. As someone else noted, they attempt to invade every aspect of our lives so they can make more money through targeted advertising...

If you do the ammo thing under a general search you get lots of shopping sites... I only know because I tried it and forgot to click shopping...LOL. But yaa I am not surprised at all that Google will not specifically search shops for ammo. It is google after all

It is amazing how companies are willing to sacrifice profit in the name of political views, especially when it comes to sending an anti-gun message. They tick off way more people than they impress. Any company thinking of something like this should consider the number of NRA members and compare that to the number of Brady members. Comparing the membership numbers for the largest pro-gun and anti-gun advocacy groups, we arrive at 4 million + for the NRA, and less than 28,000 for the Brady Campaign, according to wikipedia.
Even people that don't like guns are likely to get ticked off at censored results. Even if you don't like guns, that does not mean you don't want to be able to see how much they cost and who is selling them. How are you going to be able to write your dumb papers about how guns are too easy to get if you can't cite the numerous website selling guns and ammo?

I'm now back on Mozilla Firefox. Of course, the Firefox home page uses Google as its search engine, so that's getting dumped. I'll guess I'll check out Startpage. I used Google Shopping results several times a week for significant purchases. Now, anything Google can kiss my ass.

It does use Google and others. It strips your info off and submits it under their's and then sends the answers back to you. This way the search engines can't collect data on you.

I was trying to show my neice how google put in this new policy, and when I had her go to shopping and type in '9mm ammo' results came right up!
I then showed her the letter google sent out to customers...and then we tried 1911 pistol, and nothing comes up. For some reason 9mm, 10mm still show up on shopping. 5.56 doesn't. A search of 'gun' shows airsoft guns for sale.
I guess they're still workin on their filters.

Why is that amazing? It seems as if they are sticking to their principles to me (misguided or not); or is that what is amazing about them?
I've been using Yahoo as my search and shopping engine for a while now, and getting used to it. One thing it is missing is maps, though. But I just discovered that Bing does maps, so I'm Google-free now!

Heh yah I try not to use google, but its so damn useful. And I've stepped into this century, finally got a cell phone - galaxy s 3 - and its an android with sprint network and as I understand it that's google owned or somethin heh. Learning lots now with this 'smartphone'.
