how do you do a private sale?

Please excuse me but I have never had to do this before........how do you do a private sale/purchase? Do I need to get the paperwork from the sheriff... or a dealer? and what do I do with the paperwork? turn it into the sheriff? sorry, but I have no clue on this. I know you guys out there will know. thanks in advance.

well, I came in here just to say

1. buyer hand cash to seller
2. seller hand gun to buyer
3. shake hands

but I forgot some of you have to register guns and fill out forms. what a pain.

Works for me in Texas, too. I normally check I.D. for residency if I do not know the person. If I have other suspicions, I ask for CHL.
