I bought a new level 3 retention holster for my 1911s so I can feel better about OC with em. However, my Colt's frame is old and no longer blue.

Are there any local vendors that can apply hard crome, or am I forced to ship it out of state?

thanks much in advance

How "local" do you want it to be? WA is big enough that, to me, shipping it is shipping it. What side of the mountains, and North or South area?

I'd recommend a moly coat instead of bluing :D I've got a two-tone gray and black, and it's lasted far longer than the original parkerization and provides great protection.

I apply DuraCoat to guns once or twice a year. Not the same guns over just friends who like my work and want other guns done. Or they buy new guns and want them done too.

I plan on working out a mix that looks like regular bluing.

Was thinking about painting the tips of my pistol barrels orange. Maybe paint the slides some other color besides black.

Unless you're really hung up on Chrome, I'd definitely consider DuraCoat. I bought a pistol a couple of years ago that came from the factory with it. At first I wondered how well it would hold up to a kydex holster and cleaning agents. Today it's absolutely scratch or chip free after carry in a Blade-Tech holster and over 10k rounds through it.

It's great stuff unless you want a nice shiny pistol like a Mexican Drug Lord.
