Welcome to Missouri and open carry. No, in Missouri you may open carry cocked and locked (1911) with one in the chamber. The problem right now is each city in Missouri may have ordinances against open carry that you must be aware of. Please join us in Jeff City on Sept. 11th to help override a veto of HB436 which will allow open carry state wide if you have a CCW.
As for open carry in Springfield I have carried there several times without issue. I have read that Branson is not the same, please wait for others to join in.
Welcome again, and may your experiences be as pleasant as mine have been.....and hope to see you in Jeff City on the 11th.

There is no central place to find the deatils of OC legal, not legal or CCW required. Local laws can change any time. The only way to be 100% sure what is legal or not at a given time is to check the local laws at the City hall of each municipality. Yep, it stinks. With HB 436 if the veto over ride is successful OC with CCW will be legal State wide. That's why we are trying to get over 1,000 people to show for the rally in Jefferson City Sept. 11th @ 9:00 AM, call write or visit your House and Senate member. YES we all want our rights, but we need everyone to work for the their rights! Nothing comes easy or free.
We have been significanly "infringed" upon but we are fighting back. Be a part of success and go the capitol Sept. 11th and help fill the House and Senate gallaries with supporters of our rights!

Springfield is fine - with exceptions. I've been OC'ing here for years with only one incident (non OC). That was at Target when my youngest threw a fit and pulled my shirt up right in front of management. A very friendly woman then escorted me (us) out of the building. They don't have signs but are very anti-gun. Battlefield Mall has signs everywhere now and is very unfriendly. Just found out that Qdoba is very unfriendly (they're out of Colorado - go figure). Since we are poised to shoot down Nixon's veto I am currently researching all the places I frequent the most (including their official corporate policies) because I will be OC'ing even more than I have in the past. I have also heard that Branson is unfriendly but, do not know that for myself. Have never OC'd down there. Like mspgunner said - no good place to research OC for every municipality. I just don't OC in places that are prohibited on the CCW list as a rule of thumb. I actually CCW in places that are prohibited (not all) on the CCW list but, that's a discussion for another post, ha, ha.

I've heard people CCW where posted... Hummm. It is NOT a criminal offense in Missouri. I think I may have actually done that by accident myself ... once or twice.. or so.... I feel so guilty?
Not really, I am totally within the law like all the time. It is a violation of OCDC restrictions to post anything which is illegal, so I didn't.. really...

OC not limited to permit holders. You don't need one at all. It's a matter of the particular municipality you are in. If you are in an unincorporated portion of a county I think you are always ok (don't quote me on that - just my understanding). Municipalities can ban OC though. Springfield doesn't have anything on the books banning the practice. Of course you can always run into a LEO having a bad day (but, that's anywhere). My experience has been that Greene County is cool with it and Springfield PD is ok but, there was a news broadcast just the other day in which an SPD spokesman said they "discourage OC". Not sure what that means. Legal is legal as far as I'm concerned. I have no experience with MoHP regarding OC.

And of course if it were completely illegal I wouldn't do it in the first place but, it is not, like you said. The one time I was asked to leave an establishment was at Target, like I said before (no signs), and I was as friendly, professional, and courteous to management as I could possibly be.

Not necessarily true that you don't need a permit at all, but it does depend on the municipality you are in. In some municipalities (such as Fair Grove, MO) you may only OC if you have a CC permit. (just another way of ensuring that the police can check you if they want to).

Thanks for the correction guys. I shouldn't have made it sound like I was generalizing for the whole state. He was asking about Springfield area. My bad.

No worries, I got the impression that he was talking about Springfield also, but had a friend without a CC permit that lives in Springfield and always OC's and made the mistake of OCing in Fair Grove as he was coming to visit me. Thankfully I caught him before anyone else, but with these jacked up jurisdictions its too easy to do that. Heck, I live in Fair Grove and STILL check the laws frequently just to make sure that they haven't changed.

WELCOME to the Forum.!!!!

Glad you decided to join. It's a great place to be....you'll learn everything you didn't want to know and nothing of what need to know!! ;)

Like many have said...there isn't one place with all the answers, unfortunately. Research is your best friend, even then, it may not be reliable.

Welcome Again....sit back and enjoy the ride! :)

Yep. We found out that was the case in Bolivar a while back.
