Can you leave a gun in the car at city hall or by the police station? YES, LEGAL. say if you have to go to the court house to get a CHP Parking lot yes, building, NO!, No carrying inside its federal. But in the parking lot is it legal? YES, LEGAL. Is it federal grounds or city grounds? Depends on Federal Grounds, is it a secured parking lot and posted?

Also what about police station? it's city? YES. LEGAL as long as you do not enter a jail facility.

I hope this helps!

No secured parking lot, it just says a big long list to NO to all these items NOT allowed in the court house.

I know preemption applys to the police station, why did I ask.

I do not know... ??
Well you edited your post I was responding to.

You said: i would not carry in a police station.
I said: Why not? and showed you that I do.
You said: I don't know. (You are basically saying you don't know why YOU don't carry in a police station)

It might be that you are new to Open Carry or are not comfortable carrying or uncomfortable interacting with LEO's, etc. You need to come to a few dinners and talk to other folks that can help you break thru some of those barriers. :)

I been to quite a few dinners :)
I am just nervous of some law suit or something. I carry my tape recorder. But I do know. The court house is just right across the street. The jail is next to the police station.

Don't carry where you are not comfortable. I can't help you with that. I can tell you where I carry and where I believe it to be legal (this is not legal advice).
I can't carry in a courthouse (violation of law)
I don't go into jails.
I go into the police station now and then (and I carry).
I don't carry TAPE recorders as they are not reliable and burn batteries. I carry a digital recorder ON and RUNNING when the firearm is ON so is the RECORDER.

We hold VCDL meetings in the Mason District governmental center, which houses the Mason District police station.

I carry whenever I must go to the Mt Vernon District government center, which houses the Mt vernon district police station.

No issues, and perfectly legal.

Have been in the VSP headquarters and numerous local PD precinct stations OCing.

Just today I was in the Chesterfield PD Hdqtrs, their new training building and the Emergency Communications Bldg. A few were seen looking, but none with any overt concern - mostly curiosity as I not what they are used to seeing. Oh and I was unescorted.

Have OC'd and CC'd at the Sheriff's Office a few times, never a problem. When I CC'd, I notified the deputy I was visiting that I was carrying and then waitied for their response before going anywhere beyond the front lobby. Always a very professional department. I can't say enough about the Pride, Professionalism and Expertise this department continues to show on a daily basis. Sheriff Diggs runs one amazing department.

When I went to the courthouse to get my CHP, I had a de-milled .30 cal rifle round on my keychain. I never gave it a second thought, but the Deputy at the metal detector had ZERO sense of humor about my keychain. I showed him the 3 holes drilled in the base as well as the missing primer pocket, but he would "have none of that" and had me leave my keys with him at the checkpoint. They ARE very serious about the 'not having any ammo' in the courthouse, too. Even a DEMILLED bullet is cause for concern. Don't even bring a piece of empty brass.

I hear you go to JAIL in Mexico for a single piece of spent brass in your car. I wouldn't want to find out if that's an Urban Legend or real life...
