I've been stopped and placed in cuffs on more that one occassion here in the TC. Only recently have I found out that simply being OC (only reason I've ever been cuffed) is not sufficient for LEOs to stop and detain a civilian. Apparently I am not the only one, so I would like to brainstorm and come up with a plan that will be followed through to address this issue.
Being new I've gone through your guys threads and saw an excellent letter made for this purpose, but for me I feel it is imperitive to humanize what is important. For example - all of us know that sexual crimes occur in the TC, but did you know that during the fiscal year 2009-2010 there were 410 individual incidents reported to SARC (The Sexual Assault Response Center)? The point is numbers highlight. I know we have them, not just us Ocers, but our families and loved ones as well.
What I picture is us drafting collectively a piece that will enunciate the right to OC, as well as the illegality of the detainment for the sole reason that we are OC. Then to humanize our cause, we all handwrite (much more personal than typed fonts) we we do so, why our wives, kids, friends et cetera (they should handwrite that themselves) why we do so and why they feel safer that we do. The next step is accountability . . .
Perhaps I am a little too influenced, but I am a big fan of the movie "V for Vendetta" (the graphic novel it was based on was much better), and I cannot get over the quote that "People should not fear their governments, governments should fear the people.". In no way am I suggesting terrorist acts such as blowing up Big Ben or Parliament, rather I feel that when we do whatever it is we do to address illegal detainment in the TC (my ideas are just mine btw, we should decide as the brotherhood which we are), we should have the media involved. We cast the burden of upholding the laws and constitutional rights that LEO are sworn to uphold upon them - I am certain that this can be accomplished without burning bridges or putting a bad taste in their mouth. That presumption is based on the fact that as OCers, I know what legal infractions you have not obtained so I believe I can trust none of us to 'act a fool'.
That's my piece. All I know is that I'm tired of being cuffed and humiliated in front of the public as if I'm some Norteno o Sureno gangbanger thug. Liberty lives as long as it is kept alive . .
