This forum is as much liberty themed as it is firearm themed, IMO

For me maximum freedom covers this topic too

I'm 1,500 miles away, so I watched this thread with interest. A couple of things jumped right out at me:

First, real pro-rights people, like the majority on OCDO, are pro-ALL rights, not just some.

Second, we all know that many supposed "pro-gun" people are social conservatives who take a dim view of "teh gays". That's their loss. And still, many of those folks support your right to keep and bear arms, just not your right to marry, nor your right to be gay without consequences. They live in a confused world.

Finally, I wonder why any potential shooting buddy would have any way of knowing your sexual preference. Unless you're wearing a blaze pink t-shirt with the Pink Pistols logo, what would make them even wonder about it?

I've met up at the shooting range with lots of people, and never once has sexual preference been a topic for discussion. I don't care who you sleep with, but if we talked about meeting at the local range, and you brought it up as an issue, I'd wonder why. And I might reconsider whether I wanted to spend any time with you, if sexual identity was more important than having fun shooting safely.

I can understand the OP's concern and wanting it known before hand but I also think he may be a little on the paranoid side sometimes about it. I have never asked anyone about thier sexual preferences that is to say whether they prefer male or female and after being married 36 years I haven't asked about any type sexual preferences in a LONG time.

Sometimes I wonder about people that try to let everyone know up front about their preferences or what type of person they are whether it be sexual, religious, political, teacher, doctor or whatever. Who are they trying to convince or are they trying to convince themselves. I meet people everyday and it never occurs to me to ask them anything about their personal lives or beliefs unless they bring it up or something specific leads to it. If you are gay I don't really care as long as you don't try to put the make on me or try to prove to me that you are by fondling your partner in public.

It is much like the other day two students were getting carried away with their "affection" in the lounge area at the school. I stepped in and told them to knock it off and act like adults instead of junior high students. The boy said "But this is my fiance". I told him, "Then get a room, no one want to see that stuff unless you are making a porn film". Religion, politics and all that stuff have no place on the shooting range so unless you are wanting more than a shooting partner none of that should matter.

As you stated some would have a problem with it and the only reason I brought it up was not that it would be a problem at the range but at times my partner does go with me and we don't show PDA in public. I don't even like it when straight people do it. And I see alot of people on here talk about meeting up to eat out and if that would be the case at some point it would come out.

I've been "married" 9 years so I know the feeling. LOL

Not trying to convince any one. Let say you meet a shooting buddy and become friends and later you find out he is gay. Now it might not be a problem for you but from them past it has been for some. I'd just rather not have to deal with it so I thought make it known first and be done with it. And I don't show PDA in public. I don't even like when others do it. It's dissrespectfull to other and yourself.

I have actually seen some pretty good writeups that show how much of the attacks, straw-man arguments and sheer lies that are told about both gay rights and gun rights are similar.

Im gay, and im always willing to go shooting. I dont make sexuality an issue... ever. If someone happens to ask if I have a gf or something, i just tell them no, and if they ask any further, I tell them Im not interested in women.. they usually figure it out. Other than that, you would never in a million years figure me to be gay, and usually people think im playing a joke on them when or if I do actually tell them.

On the plus side, i know I'll never get gay bashed...Im always armed.

Plus when someone gives me crap for being gay.. I just look at them, and ask them.. "have you ever had your @ss beat by a ***?" (or queer or homo or whatever term they call me) and walk away. That usually gets the point across.

In general though, I've found most pro 2a people to be very pro rights and pro bill of rights in general.. and typically very respectful of all... irregardless of what the issue at hand is.

Ok Ok. I guess I made a big deal out of nothing. I just wanted to be open about it so it would cause a problem with someone later but seems it caused more of an issue saying something then not saying something. I guess I was wrong. So can we put the dead horse to bed now. Man they need a way to close a post or delete it. LOL

Just looking for someone interested in going to the range with. I have a partner of 9 years who doesn't like to shoot much.

Welcome to OCDO! We welcome people from all walks fo life here--as long as you are pro-OC, and pro-RKBA. All the other stuff doesn't really enter into the equation, as long as you are law-abiding, proficient, and safe.

There is a "Pink Pistols" branch in Charlotte. I don't know how active they are, but they have a very good reputation nationally, and from my limited experience with their members, are some VERY knowledgeable, friendly, and well-spoken people. Here is their contact page:

http://www.pinkpistols.org/local/charlotte/index.html

The members of this group set up a LOT of "range days" when the weather gets warmer--so if you watch the forum, you should see the "range day" planning threads start up again soon. Charlotte is sort of outside the "hot areas" for OCDO in NC--most of our really active members are in the Raleigh area, or in the East. There are a few active members out in the Western part of the state, but not many "vocal" members down in the Charlotte/Mechlenberg County area. I don't know why that is...

I'm sure you will be welcome at any range day event we have. OCDO people are a pretty accepting crowd--if you have guns and are enthusiastic about firearms, then you're "part of the club" pretty much instantly!

Welcome, and stay safe!

Hahaha /win!

Well, the only thing I have to say about the whole thing is that I won't say anything about anyone being gay if ya'll promise not to mention I'm fat :)

But yeah, if you're ever in the Fay'nam area lemme know. We'll go kill some paper somewhere. :monkey

Thanks for the info. I have met a few guys here from the Charlotte area and we are trying to work out a time we all can meet up. I think the Charlotte area is kind of quite on here because there are a lot of transplants like myself here that don't know the laws. I grew up in MD and DC and thought that was how it was all over the U.S.A. I have been CCing for almost 2 years now. Was told that OC was legal but if someone calls the police you more than likely would face GATTTOP. So even after reading all the info on this site I have to say I'm still a little worried. LOL The funny thing is I'm an armed security officer and I OC for work but reluctant when not in uniform. I'll get there some day. I think I would get less hassel from a LEO because of my job.

^ I tell people I work in personal security all the time.

That seems to appease most who then raise their brows and go "Oohhh, ok". Like hearing that I get paid to carry a gun means they're cool with it. No jerks or criminals ever end up in those kinds of jobs of course.

Of course by personal security I just mean myself but it somehow settles the average sheeple.

That's a good one. I'm sure it helps because they think you have tons of training and background checks. And your not lieing your protecting yourself.
