Hmm, now it's suddenly about those evil gun manufacturers. And of course they are entirely wrong in their conclusion about DC post-Heller. What's actually amazing is that 900 people endured the draconian gamut of procedures required to actually get a gun!

Note, it's kind of hard to read this and keep a straight face.

Violence Policy Center Statement on McDonald v. Chicago Decision

WASHINGTON, June 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following today's U.S. Supreme Court decision in McDonald v. Chicago that the City of Chicago's handgun ban is unconstitutional under the Second Amendment, thus applying the Court's 2008 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller beyond Washington, D.C., Violence Policy Center Legislative Director Kristen Rand issued the following statement:

"People will die because of this decision. It is a victory only for the gun lobby and America's fading firearms industry. The inevitable tide of frivolous pro-gun litigation destined to follow will force cities, counties, and states to expend scarce resources to defend longstanding, effective public safety laws. The gun lobby and gunmakers are seeking nothing less than the complete dismantling of our nation's gun laws in a cynical effort to try and stem the long-term drop in gun ownership and save the dwindling gun industry. The 30,000 lives claimed annually by gun violence and the families destroyed in the wake of mass shootings and murder-suicides mean little to the gun lobby and the firearm manufacturers it protects.

"It is our hope that Chicago's citizens will follow the lead of the residents of the District of Columbia--who were stripped of their handgun ban in the wake of the Supreme Court's June 2008 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller. In the two years since that decision, only 900 firearms have been registered in the District that otherwise could not have been registered before the Heller ruling. The citizens of D.C. reject the wrong-headed notion that more guns make us safer. We know the facts prove the opposite and that areas of the country with the highest concentration of gun ownership also have the highest rates of gun death. We urge Chicago residents to consider these indisputable facts before considering bringing a handgun into their homes--an act that could well prove fatal to themselves or a loved one."

What a JOKE! hmmmmm.....firearm ownership and gun sales are dwindling away are they? Sure couldn't prove that by a two year ammo shortage and record gun sales. VPC and Brady Campaign are a bunch of wacko far left extremists who lie and decieve people with their false claims to intimidate people in to beleiving guns and gun owners are evil.

And here is the Brady bunch spin

Statement of Paul Helmke on U.S. Supreme Court Ruling
Jun 28, 2010

Washington, D.C. – Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Center and Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, issued the following statement:

“We can expect two things as a result of today's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in McDonald v. Chicago: the gun lobby and gun criminals will use it to try to strike down gun laws, and those legal challenges will continue to fail.

“We are pleased that the Court reaffirmed its language in District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment individual right to possess guns in the home for self-defense does not prevent our elected representatives from enacting common-sense gun laws to protect our communities from gun violence. We are reassured that the Court has rejected, once again, the gun lobby argument that its ‘any gun, for anybody, anywhere’ agenda is protected by the Constitution. The Court again recognized that the Second Amendment allows for reasonable restrictions on firearms, including who can have them and under what conditions, where they can be taken, and what types of firearms are available.

“Chicago can amend its gun laws to comply with this ruling while continuing to have strong, comprehensive and Constitutional gun laws, just as Washington D.C. has done. After the Heller decision, at least 240 legal challenges have been brought to existing gun laws, nearly all of which have been summarily dismissed. There is nothing in today’s decision that should prevent any state or local government from successfully defending, maintaining, or passing, sensible, strong gun laws.”

They are spinning this as a win. With more wins like this, they won't have to lose many more to be totally irrelevent (already irrelevent?) (hmmm, no spell check on the new software?)

Worst statement ever

WTF????????

So the gun lobby and gun criminals are now working together? Or is this just the Brady way of saying that gun right lobbyists ARE criminals? And how does declaring the Chicago laws unconstitutional constitute continued failure of legal challanges?

Almost totally non-sensical.

The VPC really wants us to beleive that the 900 firearms that have been registered is a sign that the lifting of the ban in DC is being rejected by its citzens? It couldn't possibly be that DC has put so many hoops to jump through in place to register the guns....that many just do what DC designed the system to accomplish, and just give up because it is too much of a hassle..

Perhaps Josh Sugarmann of VPC should move his office to Chicago, where he can put his illegally-obtained FFL to good use, transferring firearms to the law-abiding citizens of Chicago...

Sugarmann and Helmke are both in a frenzy of denial. They are losing credibility with the public who now sees the lies and duplicity of their agenda. They are losing funding faster than they can draft their money-grubbing press releases. And meanwhile, the only "proof" that their unconstitutional, fascistic "gun control" agenda works is the rising murder rates in cities like Baltimore, NY ad Chicago.

Last weekend in Baltimore there were 9 shootings, nearly half of which resulted in fatalities--and ALL committed by people with criminal records who were illegally in possession and were illegally carrying firearms.

Last weekend in Chicago, there were 52 people shot, and over 10 deaths. Most of these were gang-related, and in all probibility, all the shooters were prohibited people, and 100% of them were carrying illegally (because IL does not have concealed carry).

Josh Sugarmann should be in a Federal Penitentiary. His FFL was obtained under false pretenses, and he needs to be brought up on charges of "providing false information on a federal application", and violating BATFE policies. He is a criminal, a fraud, and a threat to the security of our Republic...

They haven't been right on any of their other predictions so I know where to place my bets on this one.

The first step to correcting a mental disorder (and many other shortcommings) is that you must realize you have a problem. Then you have to face the problem.

I think they must have made the first requirement by now but have simply turned to some mind altering intoxicant to avoid dealing with it. Perhaps when they finally enter some AA type tratment program they'll wake up. I'm not holding my breath though!!!

Now I know where all of the comic writers have gone - to the Violence Policy Center, Brady Center and Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

The are a ship foundering and loosing support big time.
Wonder if the will have enough money to pay left to pay Paul Helmke's almost $250,000/yr salary.

Response to Quoted article on VPC provided by TFred

No city, county, or state or any other governmental agency will be FORCED to expend funds in defense of their gun laws and restrictions.

CHANGE THE LAWS PRE-EMPTIVELY SO THAT THEY ARE IN FULL COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAW OF THE LAND!

You will not only save some lives but some tax money as well.

I see this as an opportunity for a WIN-WIN....

The choice is yours!

This is possibly the most laughable statement they've made in recent years. Since when do criminals "try to strike down" any law? They just break them! Hence the "criminal" label.

BTW, when did all the legal challenges start to fail? With Heller? It's comical.

Actually, and unfortunately, no. You have to remember who's doing the talking here.

In their deluded world, it is the "criminals" who are trying to strike down the laws... like people who drive on roads that happen to be within a thousand feet of a school, or people who need to go into a Post Office to buy stamps or pick up some mail, etc, etc, etc... Those criminals.

Yep. They are trying to link gun lobbyists and criminals.

It is an old lesson. Whatever the deceitful are claiming you are doing is actually what they are doing. If your nasty, deceitful opponent claims you kill puppies, just go look in the dumpster behind his house and see if you don't find some dead puppies. If your nasty, deceitful opponent claims you have financial irregularities, just start looking into his finances. Surprising how often it works.

The real story is that the gun-grabbers have been supporting robbers and rapists for years by rendering citizens vulnerable to criminals. And, they know it.
