Stephanie Soechtig is an award-winning writer, producer, and documentary film director. Her most recent film, Under the Gun, received a prolonged standing ovation when it premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. EPIX acquired the award-winning film, which critics called “masterfully crafted” and "the best film on firearms since the 2002’s Oscar-winning doc Bowling for Columbine.”

Katie Couric is the Global Anchor for Yahoo News, award-winning journalist and TV personality, well-known cancer advocate, and New York Times best-selling author.

UNDER THE GUN examines the events and people who have kept the gun debate fierce and the progress slow, even as gun deaths and mass shootings continue to increase. Through the lens of families impacted by the mass shootings in Newtown, Aurora, Isla Vista and Tucson, as well as those who experience daily gun violence in Chicago, the documentary looks at why politicians are finding it difficult to act and what is being done at the state and local levels. The film is executive produced and narrated by Katie Couric and directed by Stephanie Soechtig.

Watch the UNDER THE GUN Premiere FREE on EPIX and EPIX.com, Sunday May 15th at 8pm. unquote http://underthegunmovie.com/see-the-film

They compare some odd apples to oranges. "There are more gun shops than Starbucks and McDonalds." Quite right, as there should be more small businesses that franchise chains.

Compare Starbucks, and McDonalds to Dicks and Cabellas and it is a whole different picture. All four franchises, McDonalds alone has a restaurant in almost every small town in America. Plus they have several in small cities, I would even argue their issue to franchise restaurants to all fun shops.

Typical liberal democrats twisting to tell outright lies.

ETA we have more Mexican restaurants in Sanford by far than gun shops.

All McDonald's sells is death from cholesterol .... and I have no idea what Starbucks sells, never been in one.

So I imagine that the movie is highlighting the best, easiest to operate, accurate rifles to us for our RKBA? And supports this with evidence of their effectiveness?

The core frustration fueling this film is one shared by many Americans: Even after an event as horrific as the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., the U.S. Congress demonstrated its complete impotence in dealing with the issue.

Again and again, the film’s boogeyman is the National Rifle Assn. Soechtig is careful to draw a distinction between the lobbying org’s leadership, who have close ties to gun manufacturers and actively work to block the most common-sense attempts at gun regulation, and the rank-and-file membership, who are presented as more supportive of responsible measures (like background checks) in national polls and man-on-the-street interviews.

But the goal here isn’t to change minds; it’s to reignite the anger of the silent majority — those familiar feelings that bubble up and then dissipate whenever another mass shooting occurs. unquote.

you call this a documentary!? I call it crap on a silver screen.

Her Bias is presented in the summarized opening posted here on the forum.

here are some things to consider.. in the 60's, highschools had marksmanship competitions on site. no mass shootings with crazy people running rampant. we made them gun free.. now we have criminals with murderous intentions looking at the flock of sheep like wolves, easy pickings, and they want MORE gun free zones? WTF :banghead:

"Watch the UNDER THE GUN Premiere FREE on EPIX and EPIX.com..."

But ONLY if you sign up for a free trial. If you forget to cancel, they charge you.

More blitheringly idiotic propaganda from the blitheringly idiotic, uber-idealistic, anti-Constitutional and reality-deficient libtards.

...common-sense attempts at gun regulation...

Aside from a very few of the current laws already on the books, there ain't no such animal, except for the ******* Oxymoron, a well-known yet heinous critter who usually hides the pants pockets of anti-Constitutional lobbyists.

From a VCDL Va-Alert, president PVC reports the following:
And coverage of the Katie Couric debacle continues to grow.

I am to be interviewed on Fox News. More details when I have them tomorrow.

The Washington Post did a particularly good job of holding Katie responsible. The article even covers emails I had with Katie's second-in-command over the deceptive editing (sorry no time to do short URLs):

Why would VCDL provide any semblance of credibility to Couric?

What was the expectation when dealing with the liberal media?

Did not VCDL consider that Couric's "documentary" would be nothing but a Mad Mommies propaganda piece?

Maybe Couric will treat gun owners in general, and VCDL members specifically, "fairly" in her next "documentary."

Welllll Katie did not do her research or she would have known she was going to get caught. She asked them if any of them were armed in the interview, she didn't ask if they were recording.

Record, record, record!

Bottom line: The liberal/progressive/quasi-socialists have very flexible ethics when it comes to the subject of gun control. They will, as evidenced by this film, bend facts, misrepresent those who support the Second Amendment, and, as Grandma used to say, "Lie like a dog in a trot!" They know they cannot have the absolute power they crave as long as there is an informed, armed citizenry.

And don't make the mistake of assuming this is all about anything other than control and power.

Someone called this non-fiction?

Without watching it, sorry don't want to join that site membership, but reading the reviews and other bits like some of edited out stuff, this "documentary" is fiction.

It is garbage and a lie.

Heart in a jar. Seeing the eyes staring at me from a platter is, disconcerting at best.

I had read somewhere on the NRA site (can't find the link now) that an assistant producer for the film had [unwittingly] committed three felonies in the course of making the film. Apparently she had driven from Colorado to another state and bought three firearms to show how "easy" and "legal" it was. Easy, maybe, but definitely not legal.

But since she was just "extremely careless" and didn't have "criminal intent," they won't prosecute her, and she could rely on the Hilary Defense if they ever did.

In February, The Lip TV interviewed the film’s director, Stephanie Soechtig, prior to the film’s release. During this interview, Ms. Soechtig openly discussed how she sent a producer of the film, who resides in Colorado, to Arizona to purchase firearms (including three pistols) privately. [original video marker 1.27]

According to Ms. Soechtig, the producer met a private seller in a parking lot of a local Wendy’s, and in less than four hours and without a background check, obtained a Bushmaster rifle and three handguns.

Soechtig then changed her story substantially, confirming that her producer did indeed commit federal firearms felonies, even as she attempted to claim otherwise. Soechtig simultaneously confirmed that she and her team skirted federal gun laws and declared that they did absolutely nothing wrong: all purchases in the film were made completely legally. Arizona law allows out-of-state residents to buy long guns (i.e. rifles, shotguns, military style assault rifles) from a private seller without a background check. It also allows Arizona residents to buy handguns from a private seller without a background check.unquote
