Hand over guns, get gift cards Thursday in Palm Springs

The police department will accept working and broken firearms with no questions asked and give out $50 gift cards in exchange for handguns and $100 cards for rifles.

Police will begin accepting weapons and ammunition at 11 a.m. Thursday. Officials asked people to park in the lot just north of the police department, 200 S. Civic Drive, and leave unloaded weapons in their cars until an officer can escort them.

The program will continue until police run out of gift cards, and priority will be given to Palm Springs residents who can show proof of residency, police said.

The annual Gifts for Guns program aims to keep firearms from falling into the hands of criminals, Palm Springs police Chief David Dominguez said in a statement.

"no questions asked"

does this mean we can bring in stolen or illegal guns?

That is exactly what it means.

It also means you can bring the police a firearm that was used in a homocide and they will dispose of the evidence for you.

Who's going to stand out there and offer $51 cash for handguns and $101 cash for rifles?

What about fair market value?

I see this as just another indicator that the people are being mentally prepared for total gun confiscation. It is coming. When? I dunno.

Can we stand out front with an ffl person and offer more money for the guns? That's capitalism at work.

They sure did advertise this alot on the news. I saw it up here in Sac too.

You do have to consider WHO would be turning in a gun with this program. I don't know that it is a big loss to the second amendment crowd. They are probably people who wouldn't use them under any circumstances anyhow. Maybe they feel too incompetent to keep them safely, or keep them from getting stolen or out of the hands of their kids.
But you're right about it resembling a gun confiscation conditioning exercise. Mighty close to that. Certainly the cops know that this program isn't going to make a dent in the gun inventory out there, because the volumne of weekly sales is eclipsing the number of forfeitures. So either their intentions are extremely noble as well as very inefficient, or it's a harbinger of more nefarious future schemes

Hitler Gun Control

Is the following quote by Hitler something similar to what we are facing coming to America? I believe it is.

[1]The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms.History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non* for the overthrow of any sovereignty. [2]So let's not have any native militia or native police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order throughout the occupied Russian territories, and a system of military strong-points must be evolved to cover the entire occupied country." --Adolf Hitler, dinner talk on April 11, 1942, quoted in Hitler's Table Talk 1941-44: His Private Conversations, Second Edition (1973), Pg. 425-426. Translated by Norman Cameron and R. H. Stevens. Introduced and with a new preface by H. R. Trevor-Roper. The original German papers were known as Bormann-Vermerke.

*sine qua non = An essential element or condition
[1] Literally means to confiscate ALL firearms.
[2] Military only - Do you people remember when our armed forces were asked if they would take up arms against the American people if commanded to do so? Far too many of them said they would. "Civilian" police forces would be disbanded.

I sincerely believe this is the direction in which we are unavoidably headed.

At times the "alleged gun buy back" programs have been conducted in areas WHERE IT WOULD BE A VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW AND SOME STATE LAWS TO HAVE AN UN-ENCASED firearm UNLESS one has a state issued Concealed carry permit such as within the 1000 foot footprint of a local school!!
