Seeing as I just moved to Melvindale I'm still on the hunt for a job. Just thought I'd ask if anyone knows of anywhere nearby that's hiring bartenders or any other good jobs that might be available currently. I've been looking into security jobs recently as well... hard to beat a couple hundred a night plus benefits for staring at monitors.

I had no idea this type of job paid so well. Are there any special qualifications employers look for?

Thanks Adam! Filling out an online app right now heheh.

Jeff, as far as I know it's like most other jobs, although a clean criminal record is a must and a CPL can't hurt. :p

Good luck on tryin gto get a job as a bartender, unless you have boobies it's hard to do so in Michigan. Maybe at a restaurant but usually only after you been there a while. You might want to try the casinos.

I know what ya mean Chuck... I won't even tell you how many bars flat out refused to take a resume because they only hire females... So I went and applied at all the gay bars! lol. Even though I'm not gay, I figure a bunch of guys throwing money at me is still money, so it's a win-win situation.

I had a buddy that did that, but he didn't get hired. I think a guy that works with me (I work at arestaurant) used to work at a gay bar (he's not). I think you'd probably make more money ata gay bar.

I'm not sure if a lisp is a job requirement......... thtop it!

Don't forget to add young and skinny to the list as well. Lots of women find by the time they hit 30 or fill out a little, they can't get the good jobs in the bar industry.

When applying for any position, UNLESS it is an armed position, I would highly recommend not mentioning a CPL on your resume or interview, unless asked. Simply add to your cover letter as a bullet point that you have a “clean driving record and criminal history.” (Only put this if it is true.)

The reason I say this is that you don't know the hiring managers personal stance on firearms. Some are anti-gunners, and some would be concerned that if the position is unarmed you may carry anyway against company policy.

I work security, I watch monitors. I'd be happy if I was paid $100.00 a night. And benefits? If I signed up for the company benefits, my pay check wouldn't be worth the drive to work.

CPL is almost a non-requirement in Michigan. Most security jobs are unarmed. Unless you want to work in Flint, Grand Rapids, or Detroit. Beyond that, the only steady armed jobs I know of are armored car guards. And for that, not only do you need a clean criminal history, but your financial background needs to be pretty clean also.

Good Luck!

Go downtown to the

Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building

Ask the security for an application. I think it was on the 15th floor. Its not a bad job, you work at that building or in any of the Social Security Buildings in the area, even in Melvindale. I use to work there.

Pay was decent about 1500 take home every 15 days. You get a gun, easy work, nice people.
