Has anyone carried in the Walmart in Middletown? I have yet to OC. I guess I just need to grow a pair and go for it. I have a Smith & Wesson 5906 with a Galco Combat Master.
Good to hear. My only concern is that I'm 20 and look young. But I keep myself well kept and have a nice brown leather holster that I think would help towards the appearance. I'm still nervous bout it though
I have noticed that most of the Louisville Metro officers are very nice and understanding. Never had a bad encounter with one (tickets, pulled over, etc.) Although the "EKU Law Enforcement" sticker may help on the tickets haha.
I can only imagine what St. Matthews PD would do if I were to open carry...
I OCed in the Best Buy out there and was standing close to a LEO, he didn't say a word......but that's probably because he was standing on my weak side about 10 feet away talking to someone else. A person in line told me that I needed to "cover it up" and I told him that how I carried my sidearm wasn't his decision, he didn't have anything to say after that.
I wouldn't be fearful to carry out there, know your laws and act like you know what your talking about and don't be afraid to request a supervisor on scene.
According to corporate walmart, the go by state law, which makes it ok to carry in any walmart in KY. As far as LEO, know the laws and let them know that you are up on the current KRS realating to carry of firearms. It is consitutionaly protected in KY, and if they try their Disorderly Conduct spill, they cant arrest you for that in KY. Look it up on the KRS website. There is 2 degrees, and neither has nething to do with openly carrying a weapon. You would have to have your gun out waving it at ppl for it to qualify. If they try, well then you have a great civil rights lawsuit to work on.
Additionally, it helps to have a sense of humour and to jovial when talking to individuals involved. Granted, you don't want to act foolish but to be light-hearted at key moments can completely defuse a bad situation.
I checked it out, you handled your self exceptionally well, I wonder if they try pestering someone lawfully carrying again? Hopefully corporate doesnt change this ne time soon, bc that is really the only large place I carry in.
I completely agree. It's a bit of a mental game when you have a LEO encounter, your trying to calm the adrenaline induced panic that overtakes you the first few times, just so you can remember all the laws you've memorized lol.
It gets a lot easier on subsequent encounters.
The last one I had was with two LEOs at the Fern Creek Walmart. It was a younger cop and an older one, the younger one having spotted me coming in and getting the older one for backup I guess. He really didn't know what he was doing and the older one acted like he was wondering why they were even bothering me lol. That one lasted all of 2 minutes, completely pointless.
