I was wondering if anyone uses a voice recorder when they are open carrying and if so what recorder are you using and do you have it in your pocket a lanyard or if you use a wired microphone. I been looking at them and there are so many to choose from and I don't know how they work if they are in your pocket. I had someone tell me to used it with a lanyard but by looking at them they don't say if they have a lanyard mount or not. I would appreciate and help and information about what you use.

I was looking at the sony icdpx333 and i was wondering if it had a lanyard mount since it did not list that it in the item details or any of the videos that saw on youtube.
so with the recorder in the pocket shirt and jeans pocket it still records good? if in the jean pocket will it shut off any?

It has two small holes in the lower left corner designed for a small split ring. A lanyard, wrist strap, or whatever can be attached there.

One of the features is a "noise cut" switch - it reduces ambient noise like clothing rubbing the case for clearer playback.

Sony PX333 here as well. I found a horizontal knife/eyeglass case that it fit into and use that.
It saved my bacon once when an officer testified that I had attempted to conceal my date of birth stating that I had said 12/5/xx instead of 5/12/xx. What I actually stated was 12 May.

Audio recording is nice to show what was/wasn't said but audio and video is even better to show not only what was said but the face of who said it. I download and keep all recordings for at least a year just in case someone lies and there is an investigation going on that I don't know about.

Very stealthy recorder but limited video and audio recording time. I use multiple units to gain recording time:

Stealthy recorder and up to 4 hours of video and audio recording:

Not as stealthy but up to 8 hours of video and audio recording:

You are well equipped, sir. Hope you never need them.

Here is another recorder to consider:

Even better would be one which uploads to the Cloud in real time ... just in case your device is confiscated by a LEO ... and "misplaced".

That is a very pricey unit ($190.00) but cheap enough when it earns it's keep.
Their publicity does make it sound like the gold plated Cadillac of the industry - lifetime warranty too.

now with the sony icdpx333 it has a 4gb internal flash memory I was wondering is that plenty of memory to use or would be better to use a micro sd card instead of the internal memory?

The VOX setting will allow 1,073 hours in fact on just the 4gb flash memory.

In the past, I added a sd card. This time, I did not and have had no issues recording over 16 hours continuously.

BTW - there is no perfect, one size fits all recorder. :)

If you have a microcard reader on your pc ... this may be something you want ... up to you .. like Grape said 4 GB is more than enough .. I've never ran out of room on my 1 GB recorder.

I prefer these types:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Olympus-WS-...307833?hash=item2a6cb32b79:g:Dn8AAOSwaB5Xj8RS

That can plug directly into a USB port w/o a cord ...

Saw this one .. update post .. a sweet deal if you get it for 10 bucks...

well after the VCDL picnic I went to bestbuy and they priced matched staples price of $44.99 for the sony digital voice recorder and now I will have to look to buy a split ring to mount it on a lanyard. so in the meantime I will just have it in my shirt pocket when I'm open carrying my firearm. I would like to thank everyone for their help and input on the digital voice recorders.

You should have asked to see mine - rigged as described and running the entire time.
